I've always been a fan of optimizing my food intake.
Not that I'm not a fan of food, as a french person I very much like to eat delicious food and pastries, but it's also a hassle to eat every day, it takes a lot of time to pepare, to eat, to clean and it can cost a lot. Plus unless you pay a little attention to what you do, your diet is likely to be unbalanced.
So I created a meal, the special that is supposed to be healthy, good, and fast to prepare. Actually, my very first post on steem is about it :
So I've been eating that for almost all my meals at home for the last two years. It was great but as time went on the recepie evolved a bit and as I seeked some better ingredients (whole rice instead of white for instance) the cooking time increased and so the current recepie that I have takes almost an hour to cook, and after two years I got tired of the taste. So I was looking for an alternative, something that's even better.
So I started looking into soylent, I liked the alternative and the philosophy. You get all the nutriments that you need in the form of a powder and you just drink that like a protein shake, takes 30 seconds to make, 10 secons to chug and 20 seconds to clean.
It's the perfect solution. The idea is to consider eating as a hobby and a cool activity instead of a necessity. What if instead of eating all the time you could just drink this three times a day and go to fancy restaurants when you want ?
But soylent is based in the us, so the price per meal skyrocketed. Luckily there were european-based alternatives.
Bertrand.bio "optimized food" makes powdered meals, except that everything comes from organic sources which is better than soylent which uses gmo based nutriments.

The first question you ask yourself when you get some is the obviously the taste.
They propose several tastes, so when I ordered my first batch I took a littke of everything to test it out, but I've found that apart from a slight taste change and a horrible "this is synthetic" smell, they don't change much.
Depending on how much water you put in it, the taste goes from "pankake batter" to "water with a little something in it you don't know what". Obviously I prefer the very bland taste so I put a lot of water in it.
This is if you put water in it. With milk in it it's veeeery good. I don't know why but it blends in so well with milk. Buut each meal is around 750ml of liquid so I'd rather not drink more than 2 liters of milk per day for my own health.
But the bland taste is fine, it's really as if you're drinking water and sometimes you get some small bits. There are little almond bits that are around 0.3 cm in diameter. Which adds texture to the shake (if you stop drinking and chew you actually feel something). So that's a good part.
If you're a new customer the packaging comes with a free shaker, and you get small pouches which contain around 3 meals, so one per day approximately :
This pouch is about 15cm tall, and weights 500gr
It's reasonably cheap, from 2.5 to 3 euros per meal. And when you consider the time and effort saved in cooking, it's really nice.
Well it's an interesting feeling to go from hungry to full in a few seconds. It really works well, Although I've found that it's enough to fill you only for about 3 hours where a "real" meal would fill me for about 5-6. But then again I eat way more stuff in an actual meal in terms of calories. But I'm fine with that, I just add more powder to the mix to get more nutriments out of one shaker.
It's also great in the morning, lacking something to eat quickly in the mornings, I had kinda stopped eating, now every day I get a shaker before going to work. And I feel more energetic than before ( big surprize since I don't basically fast for 12 hours every day).
I've been eating bertrand.bio for two weeks replacing 1 to 3 meals per day. I still eat some "real" food now and then at home but it's definitely a great meal replacer and a good way to get your nutrition under control. I might get tired of the taste and then try some other meal replacers but for now I'm very happy with it. I finished the 21 meals version and I ordered 90 meals to last one month with it. We'll see how it goes :)
