While it might happen during farming that a call to sacrifice the lettuce might happen due to lack of manpower to harvest crops, this is something that will never happen at my workplace.
No matter how short-handed we are, the program progress is still king. Extra hours are required to be put in to ensure the program is on track. And things got a little worse, paid overtime had been reduced yet when tough times come, we are expected to still power through because the leaders will say, powering through will ensure everyone will have a good bonus.
While everything sounds legitimate, I often wonder if we are treated as humans or machines. Even machines have their downtime for maintenance. There is definitely a change required as much as revenue is important, the company has to treat their employees better. Otherwise, I foresee a massive attrition in time to come or everyone will just reduce their efficiency further which is bad to both employee and employer.
