Happy Monday Hivers!
We were a little late in planting our second batch of lettuce. Our original plan was to sow the seeds before harvesting the first batch so that, right after the harvest, we could immediately transplant the next batch without any delay. This would ensure a continuous supply since some of our neighbors had already reserved lettuce and were waiting for the next harvest to become available.
Unfortunately, our plan didn't work out because the seeds we initially sowed never germinated. We waited for almost two weeks, but none of them sprouted. Because of this, my mom decided to sow a new batch of seeds using a different potting soil, as we realized the soil we used the first time wasn't suitable enough for good germination.
Thankfully, our second attempt was successful, and the seeds finally germinated. Because of the delay, our lettuce pots remained empty for several weeks. But just last week, my mom successfully transplanted the second batch of lettuce seedlings.
This time, we're actually growing two different varieties of lettuce. We bought a new packet of seeds because the label showed that the lettuce would have purple leaves. My brother had been asking us to grow purple lettuce, so we decided to give it a try.
However, when the seeds germinated, every single seedling came up green. One of our neighbors told us that the leaves might gradually turn purple as the plants mature, so we'll keep observing them to see if that happens. Since this is our first time buying and growing this particular variety, we're also curious to see how it develops.
That's one of the things I love most about gardening. There's always something new to discover, and you'll encounter many first-time experiences along the way, especially for someone like me who's still new and just starting to focus on growing plants. Every challenge becomes a learning opportunity, and every success makes the journey even more rewarding.
We're excited to watch our lettuce grow, and we can't wait to harvest the second batch for everyone who has been patiently waiting. We hope they'll be just as fresh, healthy, and delicious as our first harvest!
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
