No se Uds. pero yo he comprobado infinidad de veces que el periodismo serio, independiente e imparcial es un bien tan escaso como el más escaso de los metales preciosos. Pero aún, si eso es posible, en el campo del periodismo especializado en deportes.
Por supuesto no es ninguna novedad, los periodistas son humanos como todos los que no nos dedicamos a esa actividad y tienen sus propios gustos, tendencias, visiones sesgadas; lastimosamente esa visión parcial es muchas veces inducida por intereses de diversos tipos.
Me gusta mucho la NFL, la sigo desde que comenzaron a trasmitir los encuentros en mi país, hace muchos años, se me había pegado el gusto por ese formidable deporte en un viaje a Estados Unidos donde pude ver en acción a los Bengals, en ese entonces todavía no se trasmitían por estas latitudes.
Tan solo el domingo anterior comprobé una vez más, si ello fuera necesario, uno de los grandes males de los periodistas deportivos, el cambio de opinión instantáneo, acomodándolo al resultado, el comentarista que minutos antes no paraba de criticar al más grande mariscal de campo que haya existido, el único con siete anillos de SuperBowl, en dos minutos, cuando Tom Brady realizó esa magia que nos tiene acostumbrados aun y pese a una edad donde la mayoría de sus ex camaradas y compañeros de equipos anteriores lo miran desde una televisión, creo dos tochdown para dar vuelta un partido más, cuando el tiempo se acababa. El comentarista, olvidándose de todo lo que venía diciendo tan solo unos minutos antes, se dio vuelta como se hace con un calcetín y lo elogió a tal punto que hasta me dio repugnancia. Me quedé esperando que pidiera disculpas por sus comentarios anteriores, después de todo cualquiera puede decir algo de lo que luego se arrepiente, pero no fue así, por supuesto.
El día siguiente al partido entre Países Bajos y Argentina, el diario Marca de España tituló que Argentina no sabe ganar, poniendo una fotografía como muestra, la misma (o una muy similar) a la que yo pongo en esta nota.
Por supuesto es doloroso ver como algunos jugadores de mi país se burlan del derrotado, pero lamentablemente la fotografía capta solo un instante y no toda la película. La fotografía no muestra como el conjunto naranja se adelanta unos metros del centro del campo donde por reglamento deben esperar ambos equipos mientras se patea la tanda de penales, no muestra como tres jugadores de esa escuadra van a “hablar” con Lautaro Martínez cuando este se dirige a patear un penal decisivo, no muestra cuando un cuarto jugador de Países Bajos, que regresa hacia el grupo luego de haber pateado el que le correspondía y también se acerca a decirle algo al jugador argentino y tampoco muestra que el arquero va también el a tratar de amedrentarlo (aunque esto este mal, es cierto que la gran mayoría de los arqueros recurren a esa artimaña y es aceptada como regla no escrita del juego).
Por supuesto que esa fotografía tampoco muestra cuando los jugadores argentinos están festejando en un costado del campo, mientras la mayoría de las cámaras apuntan al arquero “Dibu” Martínez y Messi tirados en el piso abrazándose y un par de jugadores de Países Bajos van a tratar de pelear pese a que los argentinos estaban de espalda a ellos.
Casualmente tengo amigos viviendo en Países Bajos, ellos afirman que todas estas imágenes no han sido mostradas profusamente en los medios locales, se trata de imponer la idea que los argentinos somos malos, parte de eso también se escucha en Croacia, lamentablemente. Quizás con la intención de esconder que Argentina prácticamente pasó por arriba a Países Bajos en el suplementario pese al duro golpe anímico que significó el empate en tiempo añadido, el equipo sudamericano debió ganar el partido sin necesidad de llegar a los penales, sin embargo, a nadie parece importarle lo importante del fútbol.
Por supuesto mi visión también es sesgada, soy argentino y quiero que gane mi selección, más que nada por Messi que es como Tom Brady, casualmente también el con 7 balones de oro, logro jamás alcanzado por ningún otro jugador de fútbol en el planeta. Ambos son lo más grande que hemos visto desde finales del siglo pasado.
Una última frase para Luka Modric y el gran equipo de Croacia, mis respetos para uno de los mejores jugadores del mundo, gran rival que le ganó a Brasil limpiamente, sin dejarse amedrentar por los kilates del quíntuple. Esperamos para hoy un partido difícil pero lealmente disputado, como han sido todos los de Argentina y los de Croacia, aunque algunos periodistas digan lo contrario.
Argentina does not know how to win
I don't know about you, but I have proven countless times that serious, independent, and impartial journalism is as rare a commodity as the rarest of precious metals. But still, if that is possible, in the field of specialized sports journalism.
Of course it is nothing new, journalists are human like all of us who do not dedicate ourselves to this activity and have their own tastes, tendencies, biased visions; Unfortunately, this partial vision is often induced by interests of various types.

Only the previous Sunday I verified once again, if necessary, one of the great evils of sports journalists, the instantaneous change of opinion, adjusting it to the result, the commentator who minutes before had not stopped criticizing the greatest quarterback that has ever existed, the only one with seven SuperBowl rings, in two minutes when Tom Brady performed that magic that we are still used to and despite an age where most of his former comrades and previous teammates watch him from television, I think two touchdowns to turn around one more game as time was running out. The commentator, forgetting everything he had been saying just a few minutes before, turned around like one does with a sock and praised him to such an extent that I was even disgusted. I was waiting for him to apologize for his previous comments, after all anyone can say something they later regret, but it wasn't like that, of course.
The day after the match between the Netherlands and Argentina, the Spanish newspaper Marca headlined that Argentina does not know how to win, putting a photograph as a sample, the same (or one very similar) as the one I put in this note.
Of course, it is painful to see how some players from my country make fun of the defeated, but unfortunately, the photograph captures only an instant and not the entire film. The photograph does not show how the orange team advances a few meters from the center of the field whereby regulation both teams must wait while the penalty shootout is kicked, it does not show how three players from that squad are going to "talk" with Lautaro Martínez when he is directed to kick a decisive penalty, it does not show when a fourth player from the Netherlands, who returns to the group after having kicked the one that corresponded to him and also approaches to say something to the Argentine player and does not show that the goalkeeper is also going to try to intimidate him (although this is wrong, it is true that the vast majority of archers resort to this trick and it is accepted as an unwritten rule of the game).
Of course, that photograph does not show when the Argentine players celebrating on the side of the field, while most of the cameras point to the goalkeeper "Dibu" Martinez and Messi lying on the ground embracing each other and a couple of players from the Netherlands are going to try to fight despite the fact that the Argentines had their backs to them.
Coincidentally, I have friends living in the Netherlands, they affirm that all these images have not been widely shown in the local media, it is about imposing the idea that Argentines are bad, and part of this is also heard in Croatia, unfortunately. Perhaps with the intention of hiding the fact that Argentina practically overcame the Netherlands in the extra time despite the strong emotional blow that the tie in added time meant, the South American team should have won the game without having to go to penalties, however, no one seems to care about the importance of football.
Of course, my vision is also biased, I am Argentine and I want my team to win, mostly because of Messi who is like Tom Brady, coincidentally also the one with 7 Ballon d'Ors, an achievement never achieved by any other soccer player on the planet. Both are the largest we have seen since the turn of the last century.
One last sentence for Luka Modric and the great Croatian team, my respect for one of the best players in the world, a great rival who beat Brazil cleanly, without being intimidated by the quintuple carats. We expect a difficult but loyally contested match for today, as all those in Argentina and Croatia have been, although some journalists say otherwise.
