In the early kickoff of the fourth matchday of La Liga’s 2026–2027 season, Real Betis and Real Madrid faced off at La Cartuja Stadium, home of the green-and-white club from Seville; this was because both clubs are among the five representing the Spanish league in the UEFA Champions League, which begins next week.
La actualidad de ambos equipos era sumamente diferente; a pesar de que el Betis en las dos primeras jornadas de La Liga obtuvo dos victorias por un marcador de 1 gol a 0 contra la Real Sociedad y Valencia, en la tercera jornada y en condición de visitante de manera consecutiva, el Betis sorpresiva y estrepitosamente cayó derrotado contra el Levante por 5 goles a 2, una derrota que generó muchas interrogantes y que vaticinaba algo peor, ya que el próximo rival era el Real Madrid, que llegaba invicto, con 10 goles a favor y 2 goles en contra en las tres jornadas disputadas; con esos resultados no había duda de que el favorito se inclinaba hacia los merengues, aunque había que señalar que desde el 2021 el Real Betis, siendo local, no cae derrotado contra el Real Madrid.

Personalmente, tenía curiosidad de ver el funcionamiento ofensivo del Real Madrid, que, a pesar de ganar sus dos últimos encuentros de La Liga por 4 goles a favor en cada uno de esos encuentros, pareciera que se está repitiendo el problema de posicionamiento entre Vinicius y Mbappé, preferiblemente por el francés, que todavía tiende a ir hacia la zona izquierda del ataque en vez de mantenerse como delantero centro; esto para muchos no era algo que se debería señalar de manera inmediata porque el francés suma 4 goles, aunque eso sí, la estadística de ocasiones falladas va en aumento. Mi verdadera expectativa con ver jugar al Real Madrid es por ver el posicionamiento de Jude Bellingham. Creo que Mourinho ha tomado lo que ofreció Tuchel en el mundial y por eso llevó al inglés a que jugara detrás del delantero centro; eso le hace más participativo en el ataque, lo cual deslumbró al madridismo cuando Jude llegó al club blanco y generó el ganar importantes títulos. En lo que va de temporada, la actuación de Bellingham se resume en goles y asistencia y esperaba ver eso mismo contra posiblemente el primer duro rival de la temporada y, a pesar de que el primer tiempo ofreció una actuación de lo que esperaba ver, el segundo tiempo fue algo decepcionante.

Personally, I was curious to see how Real Madrid’s offense would perform. My real expectation when watching Real Madrid play is to see Jude Bellingham’s positioning. I think Mourinho has taken a cue from what Tuchel did at the World Cup, which is why he had the Englishman play behind the center forward; this makes him more involved in the attack—something that dazzled Real Madrid fans when Jude arrived at the club and helped them win major titles. So far this season, Bellingham’s performance has been all about goals and assists, and I was hoping to see more of the same against what is likely the first tough opponent of the season. Although the first half delivered the performance I was hoping for, the second half was somewhat disappointing.
Justamente, el segundo tiempo del Real Madrid fue bastante triste y es que en los primeros 45 minutos dominaron en posesión, juego y, por supuesto, en ocasiones generadas, pero el segundo tiempo fue todo lo contrario al realizar tan solo 5 chutes, de los cuales tan solo uno fue de peligro, una estadística que, si se compara con lo hecho en el primer tiempo, posiblemente para quien no vio el encuentro puede pensar que hubo un cambio de los 11 jugadores titulares e hicieron jugar a las versiones negativas de ellos. Esa actuación lamentable del equipo titular dejó en evidencia (por los momentos) a jugadores que llegaron para ser parte del equipo en esta temporada; pareciera que Mourinho los ve como revulsivos, pero es evidente que todavía están lejos de un estado de forma óptimo o que todavía no saben a qué club representan, y espero que lo primero sea el factor que les evite demostrar una mejor actuación porque, si es lo último, posiblemente se genere un grave problema.

Compared to their first-half performance, this statistic might lead someone who didn’t watch the game to think that the entire starting lineup had been replaced with their “worst versions.” That dismal performance by the starting lineup exposed—at least for the moment—the players who joined the team this season; it seems Mourinho views them as game-changers, but it’s clear they’re still far from peak form or that they haven’t yet internalized which club they represent, and I hope the former is the reason they’re failing to perform better because, if it’s the latter, it could lead to a serious problem.
Este fue el segundo encuentro de visitante que enfrenta el Real Madrid de Mourinho, Mbappé, Vinicius y Bellingham; el primero fue contra el Espanyol, en el cual se remontó un resultado adverso con un gol de Jude en el ochenta y la victoria llegó en el minuto 90 con gol de Espi; justamente en ese encuentro, el Madrid se entregó plenamente al ataque generando ocasiones que no concretaron y en el segundo tiempo, a causa de la necesidad de ganar, chutaron más, pero solamente generaron tres ocasiones de peligro, de las cuales obtuvieron 2 goles. La diferencia de ese encuentro con este último que perdieron fue que la efectividad no existió, sus delanteros no estuvieron bien, el aporte fue nulo, torpe, muy decepcionante y esto es algo que debe evitar su entrenador, que sea algo repetitivo; futbolísticamente, el Madrid puede generar mucho más gracias a la calidad de sus jugadores, pero creo que en ciertos momentos debe empoderar el equipo y eso solo se logra con la intuición del entrenador de cambiar lo que sea necesario para ganar y por el bien del madridismo, creo que eso es lo que debe ocurrir porque si no será una temporada larga.
