Went ahead and took a small position in NEM for the first time earlier today. Read some encouraging info in a variety of places about it and decided to use a small amount of Bitcoin (parlaying recent Bitcoin gains) to diversify. Plan is to gradually accumulate some positions in a "basket" of alt coins while still gradually getting some more Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin as well. Now have small positions in Nexus, Cardano, Siacoin, Potcoin besides the new one in NEM.
