Two days ago, being a Sunday, I was opportune to attend my friend's church which is still my church but in another location. The service was really a great one starting from the opening prayer till the message session. But what caught my attention was during the choir ministration.
Since I knew this friend of mine, he never told me he's a chorister. Just seeing him in choir amazed me; it wasn't just a choir, but a classical choir that often sings in solfa notes. The truth is that he did very well during the ministration.
Mhen! Though they were few choristers, but the harmony was something one can't write home about; sounded as hot of angels lol. I felt the melody and accurate switching of parts while the song was ongoing; I mean the tenor singers sang alto and vice versa. The beautiful part also was that they sang in my dialect using solfa notes.
Guess what friends? Let me tell you the interesting part I noticed in their ministration. They sang without a keyboard; in the note that they using to sing it was written that they sang in key F. So, a keyboardist got to the keyboard to assist them while they were singing and surprisingly they were singing on key F. How?
How did they detect and know the key they were singing without the help of a keyboardist? Such a mastery!
Year ago, in my little experience in the choir, oftentimes, the keyboardist tunes the song and we sing based on the key we are given. During rehearsal, we try a voice training session where we will sing and say the key we used. Most people get it right, some get it wrong while some may get it write out of assumption.
So, this was why I was amazed when I saw my friend's choir performed this good! I must say, it takes high level of discipline, commitment and consistency before one could attain the height of detecting which key one is singing at a glance even before getting to the instrument to confirm it.
