This is a catch up exercise to make up for not getting around to doing my 11th #2020Vision challenge yesterday!
Met Opera Live in HD: Akhnaten
After I had done the pressups I went to the cinema with my wife to see the Met Opera's "Live Viewing in HD" presentation of Philip Glass's Akhnaten. Here's the Met's official trailer:
The Mrs secured us a couple of "executive seats" and it was incredibly relaxing to sit back and let the repetitive structures of the music carry you away without ever losing the plot!
The plot is really a series of masques that show the accession of Akhnaten to the throne of Egypt, his monotheistic religious innovation, his wife Nefertiti and their family, and then his deposition and death.
The title role was played by brilliantly by a countertenor, Anthony Roth Costanzo. Of course, you have to be fit to play the role, and Costanzo's arms look far more muscular than the spindly spahgetti-like arms that are suggested by the surviving images of Akhnaten.
I bet Akhnaten wasn't able to do ten pressups on a Sunday!
