In the world full of evil, there are still good people out there who share their kindness at random times to random people. I can share some instances where I have been touched by a stranger's kindness and I will never forget them.
There was this one night I was going home from the coffee shop. It was 1am when I realized I was falling short of money to go home. I don’t remember why, but I don’t usually risk spending money if I know it won’t be enough for my fare.
I usually commute for two rides, sometimes three depending on the time. Since it was 1am, my options include riding jeepney twice and ride a motorcycle (we call them habal-habal lol you’ll understand once you’re in the Philippines xD).
Anyway, I was only maybe 20 minutes walk away from home but I lack 2 pesos for the motorcycle fare so I decided to just walk.
Around 3 minutes, a guy on a motorcycle stopped beside me and asked if I needed a ride and I said I can’t cos I lack 2 pesos so I’ll just walk. :(
He said it’s okay and he’ll just take me to my street because it’s dark and nobody else would come rescue me if something happens. I knew he was not a threat. I got home safely and I insisted to pay the fare that lacks 2 pesos lol. I felt his genuine concern and I think I reminded him of his daughter or whatever and he doesn’t want young girls to go home at night alone.
I take this route every now and then, hoping I would be able to bump into him again (so I’ll be able to pay back the 2 pesos hahah, and maybe even add more) but unfortunately I haven’t seen him since. I hope he's doing fine.
I was also going home and it was kinda raining. I don’t mind the rain though so I was just walking chill, just 15 feet away from home when suddenly there’s this girl who walked beside me and shared her umbrella and said “Dont want you to get wet!”
I was like AAAAWWWWWW it’s fine but thank you :3
So we walked like that for like 30 seconds til I got home xD She’s at the same street as me but we have never talked before so was surprised by the sudden kindness.
Now this isn't a specific occurrence. This happens a lot (at least in Davao City). But I will mention it anyway. There are times where the fare is let's say 104 pesos and you don't have coins and you try to pay for a 20 peso bill, the drivers sometimes just let you pay 100 pesos for that. They gladly decline the 4 pesos because I don't know, they are just understanding and not greedy.
I also remember there was this one time when everybody was wondering why a cab driver won't go right away after he dropped you from the destination. The driver would look out after you and will make sure you get inside your home safely. Turns out it was cos the mayor of our city ordered the cab drivers to look after women and to make sure they are safe. I experienced that and it was a lovely feeling. :3
I was running late for school (as usual lol) and had to get to a bus as soon as possible. The bus that stopped was full and I had to stand up for the rest of the ride. Honestly, I really don't mind standing up and I don't require men to give up their seats for me either. I believe in equality. But there was this guy who gladly gave his seat for me. Aaawww.
Of course, that's not all. Pretty sure there are lots of instances that I don't recall much but it's a good thing cos we know they are not rare yet and they still exist.
It's amazing how these people sacrifice something for strangers. These are just small deeds but I really appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of these people. Sure, looks and wealth are cool. But to me, being able to show your selflessness is more impressive than anything else. It's a direct path to my heart lol. I hope to witness more kindness in the future. :3
