The #hivenaija weekly prompt is so relatable as we all have an experience in one way or another being the Africans that we are. The prompt states:
2️⃣If you can wipe out one animal/insect from existence, which would it be and why?
Animals and insects have been a peculiar aspect of the human existence, while some are helpful and useful to humankind, however, some have also been a pest to mankind.
Thus there are two insects I would love to be wiped out from existence and that would be flies and mosquitoes. It's like they have been ordained to follow humans around whether you are dirty or clean. They always have a way of following you around and locating your ear lobes. In public you could look stupid while trying to use your hands to drive them away.

Then we also have mosquitoes, which are a common pest in this part of Africa. These ones are the worse, wherever you go they follow, they even have a means of identifying the ears even in the dark. They are a respecter of nobody both old, young, rich and poor. One funny thing I saw on the internet was when residents in high end Lagos community like lekki were complaining of experiencing 'tiger' mosquitoes disturb them.
The real reason I would love these to be eradicated is because they transfer diseases to people and food. The fly for instance can perch on soak away pit and still find its way to your food and perch on it, thereby secreting harmful substances in it. People have died in this process as it could be regarded as food poisoning.
For mosquitoes, they also carry deadly diseases which is not good for mankind which can range from yellow fever, malaria, virus like aids. They suck on one's blood when bitten and tend to transfer it to another, in the process depositing diseases on the recipient. This is so bad to the extent that, when Americans visited, it affected them so bad and got them sick. The most dangerous thing about this is that, it can kill if proper care is not taken.
For animals, I would love for snakes to be eradicated. Gosh, I hate snakes so much, a dangerous animal that surprisingly some people keep them as pets. Yes, i am aware of the fact that they are useful in the production of items like bags, shoes etc. But the venomous and extremely large ones are so terrifying.
In view, eradicating the fly, mosquitoes and snake from existence would not be a bad idea prior to the nuisance and health issues they render to humans. Especially, the mosquitoes, you can't sleep at night when the place is infested, the way they sing in your ears, you wonder how did they locate it even in the dark. Some are so big and some so small. We just have to safe out there and maintain health precautions to save us from been victims of deadly diseases.
