Greetings!
One thing that should be made paramount in life is welfarism of our lives, most especially the welfarism of the people should be prioritised by the government and this is because it's when people in the society are living well that we can have a healthy society, however this welfarism of a thing to me and in my own opinion should not be limited to those that are moving freely in the society alone but to those behind the bars in our various correctional facilities.
Having said so much about this, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt before in the Hive learners community which is all about, “Prison welfare.”
As for me, prisoner's welfare should also be given utmost care and this is because they too are humans who need to be cared for, although they might committed series of devilish act which must have brought them to the prison or the correctional facilities which they now found themselves, but one thing is that, these people being in the prison does not take the human flesh or spirit in them.
In my country, the legislative body of my country sometimes ago changed the nomenclature of the prison to the correctional centre and when I heard this, it gladdened my mind and this is because of the fact that human face-lift would be given to the prison system of my country which I believe would help to promote the prisoner's welfarism.
What this meant to me back then is that, instead of the government suffering the prisoners in the various correctional facilities that we have in our country, they will now take good care of them as I believe that genuine correction can only take place when people are being taking good care through an adequate welfare system.
Another thing that we should consider in order to prioritise the welfare of the people is that not all those that are in the prison are hardened criminals and for this reason, those that are not hardened criminal among them should not be deprived of good care, such as good food, good medicals and so on.
Furthermore, one thing that we should have at the back of our minds is that, ine day, these people, most especially those that are not in life imprisonment or death sentence would be discharged and released into the society, so, if they should be maltreated in the prison just because of their offences, then the effect of them being imprisoned in the first place would not be of any effect as they would just go back into the society to continue with their former activities that had brought them into the prison.
I have heard of so many cases where the prisoners were being maltreated and that it was even in the prison that they form a deadly gang and when they were being released to the society, they started to terrorize the society and this was just being they were not being treated or corrected as they were to be corrected. Although, I'm not saying they have done the very good thing to be treated well, but at least, they should not be abandoned when it comes to their health and other forms of a better life.
