Whistling kite photos from my recent trip to the wildlife reserve. These are Australian whistling kites.
Interestingly these are the cause of fires getting out of control. They will purposefully spread fires from existing fires to flush out wildlife. Hence them getting nicknamed "firehawk". They are definitely not a favourite among the farmers and rural communities. Amazing how smart some birds really are.
They have a wingspan of 120 cm to 145 cm and feed mostly on carrion and small animals. They can grow up 50 to 60cm tall.
