Ban Xeo is everywhere in Da Nang. The “Vietnamese pancake” or “Vietnamese crepe” is a typical dish of central Vietnam and for sure it’s a must-try! Besides many people call it a “pancake” or a “crepe”, I think its a very unique dish and incomparable to any western food.

Ban Xeo means “sizzling cake” and the reason is because it’s is cooked on a piping hot pan. My first experience trying Ban Xeo was amazing and it was my weekly choice!

Miss Nhi Restaurant

It’s for sure not the most authentic Vietnamese restaurant since the whole menu is in English and the staff speaks English very well. However, the kitchen and the dishes are truly Vietnamese and delicious. They serve most of the typical Vietnamese dishes such as Pho and Mi Quang. However, one of the specialties is Ban Xeo. For this reason, I choose the place

It’s not also the most affordable place. Compared to traditional restaurants it costs almost double. A Ban Xeo in a typical restaurant costs around 50 million dongs, but in Miss Nhi, it will cost 90 million (however, less than US$ 4,00). It’s still very affordable and worths the experience, plus it’s delicious!

The place is really nice, clean and the staff is super friendly! I highly recommend you to visit it!

Ban Xeo

So, it’s quite complex to explain what is a Ban Xeo. But basically it’s a kind of pancake/crepe made with rice flour, turmeric, and water. The dough is filled with shrimps, pork and sprouts then cooked with a piping hot pan.

Easting Ban Xeo is kinda a ritual. You need to pick up the pancake, opened it into a leaf of rice paper then filled with lettuce, herbs, onion, green banana and mango.

After this, you must roll everything and dip into a peanut sauce, which is made with peanut butter and soya sauce plus different spices.

Sounds crazy? Different? Exotic? Yes, it is! But also delicious! I simply loved Ban Xeo and I’m ready to try more authentic places with this dish!

If you’re in Da Nang I highly recommend you try Ban Xeo and also Miss Nhi!
