I’m not a vegetarian. I mean I had my vegetarian and vegan phase and I really enjoy it. Comparing with the traditional cuisine, veggie/vegan dishes are much more creative and they do explore much more spices and flavors. So, yes, even not being a vegetarian anymore, I still visit places from time to time and I eat meat only when I fell as I wanted.
I’ve been traveling for two years now and I’m very curious about food. Being a vegetarian in some places in this world is equal to restriction. So, I prefer to taste the local food as it is, instead of avoiding meat.
However, in some places of this word, you can have an authentic vegetarian experience with the local dishes. And Thailand is definitely one this! I’ve been trying amazing vegetarian/vegan places here where I can taste all the typical dishes. Besides that, many plates use mushrooms in order to substitute the meat. And if all the cows in this world become mushrooms, I won’t die on starvation!
It was a bit soupy, for my taste, but spicy in the way that I love it! I also had fried mushrooms with tamarind sauce. Really tasty, crunchy and with this sour sauce that makes the difference in terms of flavor.
The menu is full of options based on traditional Thai cuisine. So, I believe if you’re a vegetarian/vegan and you want to taste pad thai, stir-fries and curries from Thailand, this is a nice place to go. They also have nice smoothies made with fresh fruit!
I won’t lie to you, comparing with other restaurants in Chiang Mai, it’s a bit pricy. But, I’m not a stingy person, especially when I go to a restaurant where the staff is a family working and people care about you. So I paid for the whole meal around US$ 7,50 (240 baths), which anyway is pretty affordable and if you consider the food, place, and service you’re super well served!
If you come to visit Chiang Mai someday and you’re vegetarian or vegan, don’t worry, this city offers amazing places for you! I wait for more veggie contests to tell you more about that! ;)
