Most of the time parenting is waiting to see if it worked. You have already decided and are wondering what the outcome is going to be. After the first child, you are no more an expert than a new mom or dad. Each child has a different and peculiar personality unique to only them despite the same contributions to their genetic makeup. I have 5 children. And when asked for advice on raising kids, I only have one thing to say; buy the good cat food. It is meant in jest, somewhat. We all try to be the super parent. The parent that will hold true to their lofty statement of 'my child will never do that'. You know we've all said it. But then life happens and even though are intentions were honourable, we turn around and there's your progeny with a mouthful of kitty cat kibble. All we can do, in my very humble opinion, is keep showing up. Because fucking up is inevitable. It takes courage and passion and all the try in the world to keep showing up day after day. Exhausted. Mentally fatigued to a level you have never known. Emotionally bankrupt. Tactility over stimulated. Uninspired. All of these things. Over. And over. And over. But just keep showing up. You've been given these beautiful souls for such a short time. There's no book to read that will outline parenthood so that we get an 'A'. Everyone's journey is so individualistic. The real drama in everyday become the memories of tomorrow. Just show up. And smile once in awhile to get you through. * item
