It all started with a link to an airdrop sent to a group chat by one group member which got everyone excited because it meant free crypto. But you had to invite 4 additional people before you could withdraw the token which will then be credited to your wallet at end of the pre-sales. Everyone was overcome by excitement so much so that we did not do our due diligence and within the next few minutes, others began flooding the chat with their referral links.
I for one figured something was amiss because I have sighted a few grammatical errors in the construction of this supposed token airdrop site. I also figured there were not enough details to the project but the site checked out. Google said it is secured with an HTTPS address and a very nice interface.
So, I quickly run to Twitter to check their project handle which turned out to have over 24k following but interestingly it was not followed by anyone I know, not even coinmarketcap. I mean that should alert me to stop pursuing after smoke but for some reason, I went ahead to fill in the airdrop request with my ERC-20 address( a newly created one), it was part of the requirements plus referring others to do the same until you have 500 of the token before you are allowed to withdraw.
I had foolishly filled in the request and referred others to follow suit with my reputation on the line
I had come back to my senses so I went to the site this time to do my due diligence. I crosschecked the link with the name of the token in the link with that of the website and on google and that was when I realized there is an error. Any major project can not afford to make that mistake so having come to the known I decided to equally warn those who have started to not pursue it and funny enough I got backlashed in return by the guy who sent it to the group.
From his response, it was evident he was aware it could be a scam but just did not care. But how do you try your luck and win from what you know is a scam? And why is he putting others at risk if he is in the known?
Surprisingly, others also ganged in joining their voices with his with some saying they do not want the truth when a wise member of the group asks them why they are fighting against the truth.
This might seem like a joke or one of the youthful shenanigans but this is the kind of adult we are rising to fill public positions. The majority are university graduates and I fear for the future of this country and the world at large. Will we have defenders of the truth and people in the coming days? Will the world be any safer for the rising generation?
For a moment I wanted to tell them if I hear any of them is running for a public position I will boycott it because we can not have people like that leading the masses.
Such behavioural pattern is seen in politics, religious bigotry, public offices, and society and in NGOs purporting to be for the people but low-key holding the murder weapon with a decline in civilization and a love for a full cup rather can getting a half and having others enjoy it too.
No wonder we have politicians and public servants who will lie just about anything, and enjoy lavish lifestyles whiles the majority of us live destitutely. Strangely, the very people who complain are the ones who go out to vote for the self-same people to fill the seat.
Just as that one person came to my aid, I believe the future will have great men of honour who will call for and stand by the truth no matter what. The future may be scary but there will equally be men of integrity in it.
