I saw my phone notification come up showing that the cab I ordered had arrived. I signalled the waiter for the bill and after settling it, walked Selene outside.

She was smiling again, something I'd noticed all night and knowing I was the cause also made me smile in return.

We kissed each other good night and for a brief second there, the kiss lingered. She got in and within seconds only the taillights of the cab could be seen in the distance..

This was our first date and I was hoping there would be a lot more in the next few weeks. My sister's call came in almost as if she'd been monitoring us, although I wouldn't be have been surprised if she was actually doing just that.
Afterall I was her lil bro, while Selene was her best friend.

I first met Selene in high school during lunch break. It was my first day and apparently newbies were tagged prank victims. I was walking to a table when the next second, I soon found my self face flat on the ground and dripping orange juice.

I was ready to create chaos with the culprit when I saw the most beautiful girl I'd ever seen staring into my face. She only said ooops didn't see you as she walked away with her group of giggling friends and a round of applause from the whole cafeteria.

I absolutely hated her for embarrassing me in front of the whole school, but Selene her name which I got to know later on was still the most beautiful girl I'd ever set my eyes on.

Although I avoided trouble which in my dictionary literally translated to Selene for awhile, I was both surprised and disappointed when my older sister Jane began hanging out with Selene.
Like my sister, Selene was three years older and I knew i didn't stand a chance with her. Not that I actually wanted anything to do with her.

She could be the most beautiful girl I'd ever known, but I knew I hated her guts. Even though from time to time, I had to keep reminding myself that I hated her whenever I caught myself daydreaming about her.
It was bitter sweet, because the girl I had a secret crush on was my biggest enemy in school.

It didn't help that she decided my house was her new favorite place and always had a number of silly pranks to play on me whenever she visited. My sister always thought Selene was very harmless, so it was a futile mission trying to stop Jane from inviting Selene over to the house.

I was good with words, Selene was good with the pranks. Whenever we met, we always parted with enraged feelings as each side mentally kept score of who was top of the leaderboard.
I guess my sister thought it was funny, hence why Selene was always at our house. But I didn't shy away from any encounter, it was our little dance and I wasn't about to tire first.

I eventually left Selene alone when she decided to read my secret love letter to her in front of the whole school. A letter which in my defense, I'd written in a moment of the most tiniest of weaknesses.

I didn't know what I was thinking writing that letter, but apparently it convinced me that I didn't hate Selene as much as I'd thought.

Operation Selene was a definite negative

Anyways I graduated high school without incident and moved on with my life. It was my second year in the university and with everything looking great, I was liking my prospects.

I was home for the Christmas holiday and as I walked in, bag in hands screaming surprise, there was Selene seated in our living room like she owned the place.

I was surprised to find Selene in my house, but I wasn't expecting her to come up to me, give me a warm hug and offer to help carry my bags to my room.
All of this while I stood with my mouth hanging open.

'What's she doing here?' I manged to ask Jane.

'Is that how to greet your big sis welcome" she asked in return.

My mum and dad knowing my history with Selene apparently chose to give no comments, even though they were practically sharing CIA level glances with their eyes.
This was going to be a long holiday I sighed as I headed towards my room.

I'd forgotten Selene was still in my room and seeing her beautiful face once again, I was almost overwhelmed with emotion. How did I ever forget about such a beautiful lady, I began questioning my self.

Surprise Surprise, apparently she heard from my sis that I would be home and had decided to come over. The way she said it sounded like she was actually here to see me and I had to admit butterflies were fluttering all over my stomach.

'Once again I apologise for my behavior all those years"

'It's not as if I was any different, why don't I take you out on Christmas day and we can properly talk about it" I asked, while trying to keep a straight face

'Is that a way of asking me out, John"

'Yes Selene, I'm saying I'd like to take you out on a date" I answered

She laughed as she walked to the door and headed out of my room. I was wondering just how stupid I could've been to fall for another of her pranks after so many years.

A text came in on my phone
I'LL BE FREE CHRISTMAS DAY, 8PM. SEND ME THE ADDRESS. -selene

It took so many years, but Operation Selene was finally a go
