She'd seen this house before even though she couldn't quite remember how, when, or where she might've seen it. One thing was certain though, the tightening in her chest and the rush of adrenaline she was currently feeling only meant that there was something important in that house.
As she made to to cross the road towards the house, a woman probably in her late twenties came rushing out and the reason for her rush soon became apparent. A little girl who looked no older than three was hiding in the shrubs nearby, which was probably why her presence wasn't noticed before.
A few moments later the woman noticed the little girl and made a dash for her. Giggling and wriggling as the woman pulled her out of the hiding spot, the little girl screams of Mummy explained their relationship.
What had looked like a woman rushing to an emergency earlier became a mother playing hide and seek with her daughter.
It was only a few seconds before she realized that she'd known without a doubt that they were playing hide and seek without being told.
There was something about this whole situation that was more than just familiar.
She froze as she heard the woman call her daughter's name Amy. Of course she'd heard the name Amy before, but it was the woman's voice that stopped her in her tracks.
That voice was the voice of ...........
Dr Pam watched Maya as she regained consciousness, she'd already been two minutes under more than necessary.
As Dr Pam watched Maya open her eyes, she hoped there were no side effects.
"Hey Maya, can you hear me" Dr Pam asked and a tiny nod from Maya confirmed she could hear
"Alright Maya, did you remember anything new this time" she asked again to which she got a shake of Maya's head
Dr Pam sighed as she held Maya's hands to show support, the extra two minutes under had been both a gamble and a risk.
Maya had lost her parents from a young age, ordinarily this would have been a simple case except that she had no recollection of her childhood memories.
Maya had been found half dead floating along the coastline by coastguard patrol and ever since then she'd grown up in foster care.
Her parents were never found and it became an obsession ever since she became an adult to find her parents using those hidden memories.
Which was how she became a patient under Dr Pam, one of the leading psychologists in the country. Dr Pam had begun a series of tests in hypnosis to help stimulate certain parts of Maya's mind and brain and it looked like another session without positive results.
Dr Pam was still contemplating this when she felt Maya squeeze her hands. She looked at Maya's face and saw tears beginning to form in her eyes and a smile on her face.
Maya was still shaking her head.
"Whats the problem Maya"
"That's not my name Doc"
"What do you mean by that?" Dr Pam asked
"I saw her, I saw my mum this time and she called me Amy" Maya finally managed to voice out amidst the tears
"Aam Aammmy, you're sure?' Pam asked again and got a nod in the affirmative
This was a big step in the right direction, this wasn't everything but it was a ray of positive.
Dr Pam didn't usually get personal with her patients, but Maya was a special case.
"Alright Ma.... no Amy, tell me what you remember" Dr Pam asked
It would take awhile to get used to calling this young woman Amy, but as Amy started to talk Dr Pam knew she would do everything possible to get this young woman the reunion she'd been waiting for.
