The Raiden network has launched on the Ethereum Ropsten test network, taking another step towards the mainnet launch they are aiming for by the end of summer. Raiden says there are still “minor issues” to be worked out and that the initial release of the mainnet will be limited.
ZenCash has completed a network upgrade and added a class of Super Nodes, which will receive 10% of the block rewards. The Super Nodes will move the tracking and payment of existing Secure Nodes from external servers onto the blockchain, and will enable sidechains that ZenCash plans to leverage for a few proprietary dapps.
Congressman Brad Sherman thinks the U.S. should ban cryptocurrencies outright, according to quotes from yesterday’s House session, citing the familiar “it’s being used by criminals” argument. We'll just drop some information here about his largest political donor and leave it to the reader to decide on the extent of its relevancy (TL; DR - credit card payment processor). On the other hand, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell says that cryptocurrencies don’t have a big enough market to be considered a threat. The central bank isn’t currently considering regulating digital currencies and does not consider them to truly be money, as adoption is low and the value is volatile.

In a statement, the acting head of the CFPB spoke to blockchain’s potential to advance consumer protection protocols, specifically citing complaints procedures.

Cryptocurrency exchange OKEx has entered into an agreement with MSX, a branch of the Malta Stock Exchange, to launch a new “institutional-grade” security token exchange. The exchange will launch in Q1 of next year. MSX previously met with Binance about a similar proposal.
