Today I went to a mooncake fair which is at their 2nd last day of sales! So I thought I can be an entry for #marketfriday by 
@dswigle 😄 This fair was found in Setapak Central in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
At the beginning of August I went to a different mall and also visited a mooncake fair. Now mooncake festival or also known as mid-autumn Festival falls on 10 September this year which also marks the end of the mooncake fairs.
I discovered the advantage to buying mooncakes at the end of a fair when it draws near to the festival.
Generous Discounts and Free Gifts!!!
I have to admit and acknowledge that the price of mooncake is seriously increasing by so much that I didn't really buy mooncakes until today! Today I decided to spend money to actually buy some special mooncakes for the reason to send some comfort to my mum-in-law who lost her mum recently. My brother-in-law, sister-in-law and husband also agreed and we shared in this gift for her.
Duria Snowskin Mooncakes
So I went back to this fair that I did go earlier to actually see if they have further discounts today. Two days ago, the promoter told me a certain combination of mooncake flavours actually was going for RM138. But sadly, it is priced at RM158 today but if we purchase that combo of Black Thorn Durian Snowskin Mooncake with Musang King Durian Snowskin mooncake together with another rm38 for 2 Musang King Durian Snowskin mooncake, we can get 4 free Mango Snowskin mooncakes, along with a complimentary thermal food container!
So I reported to those who want to share and we think it was a great deal hence we paid RM196 for 12 mooncakes!!!
This brand Duria is a local snowskin mooncake which did spark up some hype since last year. None of us have tried it but we thought let's let our mum-in-law try. Some flavours have already been sold out.
They packed them all nicely in 2 thermal insulated bags and were to be kept into freezer.
Only take it out to thaw 15 minutes if we want to enjoy the texture of durian ice cream and we can thaw for 30 minutes if we prefer it softer.
Met a super friendly promoter so I am glad I let her have some business too.
Besides sharing about the most expensive snowskin mooncakes I have ever bought, I want to bring you to tour the different mooncakes booth too.
Different from the first mooncake fair I went, this fair has more known brands like Overseas 海外天.
Tai Thong 大同is also another huge brand for mooncakes.
KLT stands for Kam Lun Thai 锦伦泰. I always hear the advertisement of these brands on radio since I was young.Can even remember their slogans or jingles.
So their price is naturally higher as well but with all the 25% and 35% discounts going on, I must say now is the time to buy if you want to.
Spotted another snowskin mooncake stall which sell it at a cheaper price compared to Duria. But no, for this time I shall stick with Duria to give mum hopefully the best.
There is also a section that sells lanterns because mid-autumn Festival is never complete without the hanging of lanterns. I went to look for some candles here but found none.
Look at this tid-bits and snacks stall. This is one unusual small appearing in a Chinese fair but it is rather common in Malaysia too. I am proud of our multi-racial mixtures in our midst.
Okay I have to admit I got drawn to this stall because of their blue packaging box. I am always attracted to things with pretty gift packaging hehe. Thank goodness I didn't buy though I was so intrigued by their flowing yolk.
Last but not least, this fair is also decorated with some swings and bunnies and also a boat. Some people were there taking photos. Maybe I should have too.
In the Chinese myth, it is said that there is a rabbit that stays on the moon with a lumberjack or a Woodchopper. There is also another legend on a lady who after consumed a certain medicine which she thought will help her live forever, floated and went to the moon.
Maybe tomorrow I will share with you the different mooncakes I have made and received this year and how we celebrate it here in a small setting. Actually for me, it won't be an elaborate celebration like how it was for me when I was young. However I would still want to have my family little reunion and have my youngest sister come over to hang some lanterns, eat some mooncakes and drink some tea perhaps.
