The Lunar New Year is just 2 weeks away!!! I am personally really excited for it!
I am a very festive person, I have to admit by now. I like to celebrate. So one of my favorite occasions and festivals to celebrate is of course the Lunar New Year. This year it is falling on the 10th of February. The celebration will begin on 9th February when the gatherings start on the New Year Eve.
I took out my older decorations from my storage after I have kept my Christmas tree on the first week of January.
There is one item that I find quite significant, at least for me on the Lunar New Year. Growing up as a child, I saw my dad will take out 2 big red lanterns to hang right at our door entrance on the car porch's ceiling, every year before the Lunar New Year comes. It always started to build up excitement in me. Coming from Kuching, Sarawak, the festive mood has always been quite strong.
Now that I am celebrating more of the Lunar New Year in Kuala Lumpur which I think may have slightly lesser festive mood this side, I tend to recreate the festive mood for my children and myself too of course. Especially this year being heavily pregnant, I am not able to fly back to my hometown like what I did last year to be with my maternal family.
So the decision came when I saw some bright red lanterns on sale on Shopee with a discount of RM10, I just had to grab it. These items were shipping from Mainland China, so I waited like 2 weeks for them to reach me.
They were bought at approximately RM15 each and they come in separate pieces for me to self assemble them. I tried to take pictures of how I did it step by step. I got familiar after I have done the first one, so the 2nd one was easy as lemon squeezy! My seocnd son was there to help handing over the different pieces to me when I asked for them. So he participated too in a way.
Firstly
I checked if I was given all the pieces. There were pieces for the "frame", the pieces to complete the sides of it and some little rings and hooks to hang.
Secondly
I figured we needed to start off with the "frame" which is 3 big pieces of the main framework of the lantern. I slipped them in the slots that has already been slit very easily. Then I arranged them onto the round piece to create a 3D shape of the lantern.
Thirdly
Now I just need to slit in the side panels into the small hole and make sure they are facing the correct orientation.
Fourthly
Take the rings and add in the small "tassel" part at the bottom and the hook on top for hanging and for it to sway beautifully when the wind blows on it.
Now it is done and ready to be hung!
There are also these racks given that need simple slotting in to be stucked to the wall.
The little helper said, " I want to hang the lanterns!"
I had no strength to carry him up so his dad did it.

The second son asked to take a picture of him and the lanterns. He loves to participate in any of my ceremonial festive decorations, so glad!
