Good afternoon! Today I went to nature, and came across very unusual insects (caterpillars - silkworms), this is a large cocoon with a very large number of caterpillars.
Silkworm is a species of butterflies, the caterpillars of which are silk cocoons. Three types of representatives of the Lepidoptera group belong to them. Some of them, before becoming a pupa with the help of well-developed silk glands, wrap themselves tightly. From it, in the future, the silk thread is extracted.
