Blame it on their strong beliefs or their cultural backgrounds, Indians tend stand out among the ones with the most affluent traditional beliefs and customs. Have you ever been curious about the reasons behind their traditions? Well, here are few Indian traditions and the scientific reasons behind them.
• Namaste ( Joining both palms together to greet )
It is believed that joining the two hands guarantees to join the tips of the fingers together; which are denoted to the pressure points of eyes, ears, and mind. Squeezing them together is said to enact the pressure which helps us remember that individual for quite a while.
• Touching elders feet ( Charan Sparsh )
As a matter of fact, touching feet of oneself is a warm up exercise and reduces tissue damage in case of a sudden movement. Furthermore, it encourages the flow of energy. When elders touch the head of the person in blessing, energy is again exchanged between them and his exchange of energy gives one vigor, self-confidence and contentment, one experiences an inner glow. The blessings received after Charan Sparsh are considered to be like invisible armor as it motivates and gives strength.
• Applying Tilak on the forehead
The Tilak is believed to prevent the loss of "energy", the red 'kumkum' between the eyebrows is said to retain energy in the human body and control the various levels of concentration. While applying kumkum the points on the mid-brow region and Adnya-chakra are automatically pressed. This also facilitates the blood supply to the face muscles.
• Applying Mehendi
Application of mehendi ( Henna ) can prevent too much stress because it cools the body and keeps the nerves from becoming tense. This is the reason why mehendi is applied on the hands and feet. Its is also used to cover up white hair by the elderly and as it rejuvenate the hair.
• Bells in the temple
The bells are used to give sound for keeping evil forces away as per traditional beliefs. However, the scientific reason behind bells is that their ring clears our mind and helps us stay sharp and keep our full concentration on devotional purpose.
• Fasting
Indians that believe fasting on several occasions is pious. However from a scientific approach, they accumulate a lot of toxins in our body and it is fasting that relaxes our body mechanism and cleanses the body by detoxifying it. Even the digestive system gets to rest during fasting which leads to the cleaning process.
