এক সময় আমাদের দেশে নানা ধরনের খেলাধূলার প্রচলন ছিলো, শুধু প্রচলন বললে ভুল হবে, কারন তখন এগুলো বেশ জনপ্রিয় ছিলো। শুধু শহরের মাঝে নয় বরং গ্রামীণ অঞ্চলসমূহে খেলাধূরার প্রতি বেশ আগ্রহী ছিলো সবাই। কিন্তু সময়ের নির্মম পরিহাস আর নানা অবহেলার কারনে আমাদের ঐতিহ্যবাহী সকল খেলাধূলা ধীরে ধীরে হ্রাস পেতে থাকে এবং মানুষদের আগ্রহও কমে যায়।
At one time there were various types of sports in our country, it would be wrong to say just the introduction, because then they were quite popular. Not only in the city but also in the rural areas everyone was very interested in sports. But due to the cruel irony of time and various neglects, all our traditional sports are gradually declining and people's interest is also declining.
কিন্তু বর্তমান সময়ে ঐতিহ্যবাহী সেই সকল খেলাধূলাকে পুনরায় জনপ্রিয় করার দারুন এক প্রচেষ্টা শুরু হয়েছে সরকারীভাবে। বিশেষ করে এই সময়ে বাংলাদেশের স্থপতি বঙ্গবন্ধুর জন্মশতবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষ্যে জাতীয় ক্রীড়া পরিষদের অধীন সকল ফেডারেশনকে দারুনভাবে প্রণোদনা দেয়া হচ্ছে। ধারাবাহিক দেশীয় প্রতিযোগিতা এবং আন্তর্জাতিক প্রতিযোগিতা আয়োজনে আর্থিকভাবে সহযোগিতা প্রদান করা হচ্ছে।
But at the present time, a great effort has been made officially to re-popularize all those traditional sports. Especially at this time, on the occasion of the birth centenary of the architect of Bangladesh Bangabandhu, all the federations under the National Sports Council are being given great encouragement. Financial assistance is being provided for organizing continuous domestic competitions and international competitions.
এমন একটি ঐতিহ্যবাহী খেলার নাম হলো কাবাডি, আমি স্কুল জীবনে দেখেছি প্রতি বছর স্কুল পরিচালনা কমিটির উদ্যোগ এই খেলাটির আয়োজন করা হতো। তখন দেখেছিলাম এটি কি পরিমান জনপ্রিয় ছিলো। কিন্তু এটা এখন শুধুই অতীত। তবে বর্তমানে নতুনকরে আবার এই খেলাটিকে উজ্জিবীত করার প্রচেষ্টা চলছে এবং এই সময়ে বাংলাদেশে একটি আর্ন্তজাতিক প্রতিযোগিতা অনুষ্ঠিত হচ্ছে। যার একটি ম্যাচের কিছু অংশ আজ আমি শেয়ার করেছি। এটি ছিলো কেনিয়া এবং পোলান্ডের মাঝে অনুষ্ঠিত ম্যাচের অংশ।
The name of such a traditional game is Kabaddi, I have seen in school life that this game was organized every year at the initiative of the school management committee. Then I saw how popular it was. But it’s just past now. However, efforts are being made to revitalize the game in a new way and an international competition is being held in Bangladesh at this time. I have shared some parts of a match today. It was part of a match between Kenya and Poland.
