Urawa Nights
In 2008, I had the fortunate opportunity to spend autumn in Urawa, a ward of Saitama City better known for its soccer team, the Urawa Reds.
There, one of my housemates, Tomomi, had a folding bicycle which she would often lend me. Due to an alignment of my work schedule, environment, youth, and depression, I would find myself sleeping through most of the morning, working through the afternoon, and awake at night with ample time to myself.
With a thin jacket suitable for the nighttime chill, my little sister's digital camera, and a cheap tripod, Tomomi's bicycle would lead me through the near-silent scenery of the streets of Urawa. On those nights, I would set the camera exposure to 10, 20, or even 30 seconds, hoping that the tripod would hold its position while the light of a passing vehicle activated the scene. Sometimes, with the help of my friends, we would even manage to travel a little further.

浦和ナイト
それは２００８年の秋、サッカーの浦和レッズで有名な埼玉県の浦和地区で数ヶ月を過ごすことが出来たのは幸運だった。
そこでの私の仲間、ともみは折り畳み式の自転車を持っていた。彼女がそれを必要としないときはいつでも私に貸してくれた。レイトシフトの仕事、鬱っぽい若かった自分、夜型人間の集まる寮生活の中、私はほとんどの朝は寝て過ごし、午後から働き、夜は自分の好きな事をして夜更かしした。
夜のさわやかな寒さに適した薄いジャケットをひっかけ、妹から借りたデジカメ、安い三脚、ともみの自転車と共に私は浦和の狭い通りをさまよい、静かな夜景を楽しむことができた。そんな夜はカメラのシャッタースピードを１０、２０、３０秒に設定し、車が通過する音に耳を澄ませながらシャッターを押し、三脚が夜風で踊らない事を願った。時々私の友人の助けを借りて、もう少し遠出をした。
