English Version
Hello Holos and Lotus family. I join the second part of the initiative launched for the international day of conscience. Infinite thanks to our friend @charjaim for the invitation to participate and move our neurons from the personal, towards a greater interest: social consciousness. Thousands of blessings to you.
Since March I started my studies to become a Master of Science in Education. I have discovered new universes in each module and I have been surprised by the amount of knowledge that we ignore, and even if it does not remain engraved in our subconscious, at least we had a small interaction that made us dedicate a thought about it.
Right now we are receiving the Sociology of Education module and I tell you that I liked it for the simple fact that it studies society, its contexts, its people... I would say that life in general and the day to day life of each person. Reviewing the related bibliography I found an epigraph in the e-book with the title of my post; it also dealt with the social conscience, so I read with more interest to be able to share some ideas from it. The author is Antonio Blanco.
According to the author, we start from the idea that social conscience is a reflection of the social being, since the human being is grouped, acts and thinks from it. In the post on personal conscience I expressed that conscience is like the GPS, which does not let you lose your way and guides you towards something better, and according to this guide we are intertwined with each other and create society.
People express themselves through social groups, associations and organizations according to age, interests and motivations , which can redirect our personal conscience for better or worse. Most of the time the groups we are part of influence our decisions or lifestyles either seeking acceptance or inclusion in them and we end up giving in to the pressure.
One last idea from the book but not from my post is that ethics establishes moral qualities for a better coexistence and in a way this is also part of the social conscience, since societies are governed by values and manners that evolve over time and according to the same people.
And speaking of values and despite being young, I do not fail to recognize that many of those that raised us have disappeared and put at risk the social conscience. Today individualism is more fashionable than helping those in need, offending rather than flattering, criticizing rather than teaching, and I could give many more examples. If there were a greater social conscience, many phenomena would not be seen today. Neither young nor old people respect the rows, the pain of others or the silence of the night. At any hour a motorcycle passes by with loud music and no muffler on the exhaust pipe. The motorcyclist is already arriving at his destination and the annoying noise can still be heard here.
More than a place to interact, society has become a place to act alone, in silence, so that no one destroys our plans or gets in the way. And what can we say about how we treat the environment? Long ago it ceased to be the creation respected by men to become just another commercial product, without taking into account that it is a living being and a subject of rights and that if all the time we take and do not give back, someday it will be our last day. We pollute the seas, we cut down trees, we poison the soil, we water garbage in the streets, we kill animals and nobody thinks that in this way we are also killing ourselves.
*I would say that this issue of social conscience is a challenge for all of us today. The saying goes, do not do what you would not like to be done to you. So the change must start from the personal conscience.
...Let's be a little bit better, and a lot less selfish
Silvio Rodríguez said in his well-known song Cita con Ángeles (Date with Angels) and it fits perfectly here. If we multiply good deeds, justice, equality and do more for nature, then we can say that social conscience has been rescued.*
Thanks for reading, with love: Vicky ❤️
