One Man Sized Blade of Grass + Promised Updates

There is a type of grass that grows higher than any other grass, but it only grows one blade. And I don't know how I got this plant, but it's mine now. So I'm going to present it to you below. The cover photo is "saw grass" and its flowers. That is a teaser for another day.

I don't think that one blade of grass is worth an entire post, but I am going to feature this blade of grass and update you on some of the other plants that we've seen in the past and give you a general idea of how the garden is going.

I could have told you that it is up to my nose, but that wouldn't tell you much. So here's an actual tape measure's perspective telling you all about its height.

The only thing left to say about this plant is what's happening at the bottom. Let's go down and dirty.

image.png

As we get down here where the root of the problem is, we see that there is one, fairly thick and round, piece of grass trying to act like a Great Oak in its own little way.

It looks like this very tall piece of grass is trying to grow one more blade at the bottom of its 'trunk', as it were. I didn't notice it before.

This post would have ended here, but I cannot stand to make shorty posts. So here are some other tidbits on my garden - plants we have seen but they have changed a bit since then.

Upates

Here's a picture of the Sarracenia that we repotted a few days ago. It hasn't changed much, but there is a small trap in the middle and I'm not sure if it's new or not.

image.png

And here's a close-up view of the baby plant that we repotted right before repotting the above plant.

image.png

That plant is currently living in the same tray where we started our new moss garden that very same day.

And here is the tallest of the Sarasenya plants. Its first trap for this year is approaching 17 inches tall, and the number two contender for height is now at one foot tall, dwarfing last year's models.

image.png

Here's a close up of number two. If the weather gets hot, the smaller ones will have the heat and energy to become taller than the first one. Imagine that!

I counted and there are nine new pitchers in total.

Down below, in the same pot, we have a Drosera that I planted upside down. Yeah, so it grows out of the bottom of the pot. You have seen this one but it was last year.

image.png

I thought it was dead. As you can see, the leaves in the background are all brown. But it has sprung back to life just in the last week or two.

image.png

If it had died, I would have repotted the (now) very tall pitcher plant up top. But it is impossible to repot a dual top/bottom plant, though I have a few creative ideas on how to do it.

Next. Here are some of the cabbage plants that were propagated from the heads of cabbage that I had already eaten. They just make more if you root them and put them in dirt.

They say only the good die young and that may be true. But the nasty come back to life.

So lastly, the hemlock plant that I put off to the side to dry up in a pan...

image.png

It has decided to start growing again with no soil. I'm telling you it's out to get me.

image.png

I'm glad it can't get up and walk. Otherwise it would probably find one of my pots and plant itself again.
