By the 13th day of ours travels in Iceland, we had finally made it to the Westfjords of Iceland. Since the first time I went to Iceland, Westfjords became one of my favorite areas in this country. As the name suggests there are many fjords and mountains. Driving there is magical( when the road is good ) and overall this area has so different feel to it, I like it.
When driving there, we had one problem, a similar problem I talked about in one of my last posts. There are only two roads that lead to the Westfjords one of them is too far from us, where we had planned to come back and the other goes over a high mountain range and got a snow cap last night.
As I have mentioned our campervan had summer tires and these were quite worn as well. Fortunately, there is a road camera and I could see that tarmac was mostly out and I have traction. Don't have many choices either way if we want to go there.
Here are some photos taken out of the car window. Asked my girlfriend to take some pictures, I was busy driving.
Some photos have reflections from windows on them, sorry for shit photography 😅
Fortunately, the road wasn't so bad at all as you saw. My biggest fear is to slip into an abyss from a steep slope or something due to shit tires.
As we descended from a mountain range the landscape got green again, quite drastic changes but cool to see.
Here are a couple of shots I took before crossing the snowy area. I stopped next to the road to take some photos. It is seriously hard to drive, not stop and see photo opportunities everywhere, especially when the sun comes out.
Ahh, I miss this place. Much more content from Westfjords coming soon!
