These are the names you have seen me say many times in the past if you have followed me for a while. This is because I have been to both of these waterfalls 3 times during my past travels to Iceland. Both of the waterfalls are huge tourist magnets and for a great reason, these are amazing. Iceland has so many out-of-this-world waterfalls but these are the most easily accessible.
During the last trip, I mostly stayed in the southern part of the country so visiting these was on my list again. After all, I don't care much how many times I have already seen these waterfalls, I would always go again because it's epic.
Seljalandsfoss
It's a 60 meters high waterfall and the water itself originates from Ejafjallaj枚kull which is a glacier mountain that erupted in a great fashion in 2010. Now I have visited this waterfall with every weather. Be it during the midnight sunset with partly cloudy weather in 2018, a full-on storm and rain in 2021, and now with full sunshine in 2023. The coolest part of this waterfall is that you can walk behind it.
On a fully sunny day, you can also spot a rainbow that the waterfall produces.
Skogafoss
About 23km from Seljalandsfoss you can also find Skogafoss. This one is also 60m high and some 25 meters wide. During the daytime in summer, quite a huge mass of people come to see this wonder of a waterfall. You can't go behind this one but legend says that there is a treasure at the back!
This is the first I saw so many people there, in 2021 we were there alone, late in the evening. At least people are good for one thing... showing the scale of how large the waterfall is compared to people.
I pushed through the people and went to the front to get a better photo without so many people on it. Mostly people stay back because they will get wet if you go too close. There was one guy that was very close but I really like the shot with this one guy on it.
As an extra, here is a huge puffin statue that is located between these two waterfalls. It's probably a new one because I haven't seen it on my previous trips. I think it should act as an advertisement for the Vestmannaeyjar islands. Yes, there are islands in Iceland 馃榾. We visited it in the next couple of days too and I am sure to blog about it soon. Anyway, here is the massive puffin and my girlfriend with it.
