It's been a while since my last travel blog post from Iceland, don't worry I haven't forgotten about it. There are many posts from amazing locations coming your way. In this post, I'm showing you a stranded shipwreck on the Westfjords of Iceland.
The name is Garðar BA 64 and it was a fishing ship.
It was built in 1912 in Norway, the same year Titanic sank. At this time this ship was a state-of-the-art piece of machinery. After WW2 it found an Icelandic owner and also got this name. At some point, it was deemed unsafe to operate. The owner didn't want it destroyed and beached it in 1981, it has been there ever since.
Slowly rusting away year by year. At least it's a great subject for photographers.
It would have been cool to get on board to see what has remained. it's possible to climb it but I didn't want to risk it with cutting myself with rusted metal. Still, I managed to take a couple of shots of the deck.
Pushed my camera through a rusted hole of the hull.
Whenever I am back to Iceland again, I definitely want to see this ship again and see how much it has been rusted further.
