Micheal was sitting outside his family house miserably, with both his elbows resting on his knees, and both his hands holding up his unshaved face. "Another sunset, I'm still broke and poor," he said. "How is it possible that an ambitious person as myself, will just be wasting through life?" He shook his head in disappointment of himself.
Just as he was beating himself up in thought and observing the sunset, a luxurious car drove into his compound. He stood up like a flash. "What on Earth is someone with a fine car like this, doing in my compound?" he asked himself. The person came down and started walking towards him.
"Don't you remember me Micheal?"
Micheal shook his head, "I'm sorry I don't."
"I'm Christopher Eddy, your dad's friend. It's been like 15 years now, since I came here. I've been out of the country. I just returned two days ago."
"Ooo...now I remember. You're looking really good Sir. Wow, it's been such a long time."
"Thanks my son. I heard about your dad, I'm really sorry for your loss. Your dad will remain, the best friend I've ever had."
"It's been 3 years now, since his death. It hurts like it was yesterday, anytime I think about him. Will you like to come inside Sir?"
"Oh. Thanks my boy. I saw you sitting out here, when I was driving in. Let's just sit down here. I won't be staying long."
And they both sat down on the bench. Micheal was in his mind wondering, "What could possibly be the purpose of Mr. Christopher's visit? My dad is dead, so definitely he's not here to see my dad. Could he be here to see me?"
As though Mr. Christopher was reading Michael's mind, he said, "I'm sure you're wondering what brings me here."
"Most people don't know that all that I am today, I owe it to your dad. Micheal, your father borrowed me a good sum of money to travel out of the country 15 years ago."
"I promised to pay back in one year's time, but I failed. I still feel the hurt till this day. I disappointed your dad. But I hope to make it up to him, by giving you 20 times that amount today, to start any business you like son."
Michael's ears became razor sharp, his eyes opened widely. He was short of words. Micheal couldn't believe what he was hearing. He knelt down to say, "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you Sir." Mr. Christopher quickly stood up to lift him up, and said, "No, get up boy. I should be the one thanking your father wherever he is."
Mr. Christopher dipped his hand into his right pocket, and said, "Here's the cheque son. And here's my card. Call me if you ever need anything son."
And Mr. Christopher hugged Micheal tightly, "It's really good to see you Micheal. You look just like your father. It's amazing."
Micheal walked Mr. Christopher to his car. Just as Mr. Christopher was about to drive out the compound, he wind down, and said with a smile, "And Micheal, remember to shave!" Micheal smiled back, "Sure, I will Sir."
"Bye son."
"Bye Sir."
And Mr. Christopher drove out the compound. Micheal paused for a second, trying to grab hold of reality. He heard a whisper in his head saying, "Now, my ambition of owning a nice hotel in this town, just came true."
