Have you ever been with someone who stays calm in the middle of chaos? Like, the world is literally on fire, and they are calm like they've seen it all before . Meanwhile, I’m in the corner mentally screaming, “WE’RE DOOMED" and trying not to get a heart attack.
Someone please explain to me how y'all stay calm and smile in chaos.
There is this grace such people carry, those calm, grounded, unbothered (idgf face). They dance around pressure with smile and they survive. While I'm busy forecasting different scenarios in five minutes, they're over there cracking jokes, laughing, eating or just breathing.like those deep, concentrated yoga kind of breathing.
And I admire that. So much.
Because me?... I panic, I freeze, my mind becomes a battle ground fighting my thoughts before anything *actually"happens. It's like my head and emotions press the fast forward button while fighting with the remote.
These reminds me of my friend back then in my department, we both had issues with one the departmental course. Ha I was frustrated, devastated, and I considered myself a failure. I couldn't eat because I was crushed and crying all day. But Julian was busy gisting, cracking jokes, watching movies and trying to help me get out of that mood. It wasn't making sense then but I understand better now.
But people who stay happy, grounded, and unshake, they serve as an anchor for those around them. They remind us that even storms pass, that every moment doesn’t need a meltdown, and sometimes, choosing peace is louder than reacting.
I have tried to learn it, taking deep breath, counting to ten, positive self-talk, listening to music and watching movies. Sometimes it works.
Other times, the chaos wins and I am back to square one, overthinking and frustrated.
But maybe that’s okay.
Maybe admiration is the first step. Maybe it’s not about becoming someone else, but slowly adding the traits you love into your own rhythm.
I still panic sometimes.
I can't do this adoption alone so i learn from them, i ask questions, i try again. And little by little, I’ve learned to pause and take a breathe. To trust that not every chaos /situation needs my full emotion.
Someday, I hope I’ll be among the calm one in the room.
But until then, I’ll keep showing up. With shaky and sweaty hands, teary and hopeful eyes, trying my best to grow into the calmness I admire so deeply.
