Are you looking for a new experience? I have a new discovery here in my hometown. My place is known for peaks and I do believe there are more coming to be recognized and visited. Some may think that they are just the same for its term “peak” but I’ll prove you wrong. Always remember, what makes a great place is a history behind it and of course experience is counted. Way back a week ago when I visited my friend in his town.
I met a man along the road and he told me about the other peak instead of going to Osmena peak but sad to say I was not able to go on that day because I was running out of time that’s why this morning I came back there to see and know what makes it different from the rest.
I will give you the complete guide to Merkado Peak. Consider this as your next bucket list.
WHERE IS MERKADO PEAK?
You have to travel all the way to Mantalongon. Once you reached Mantalongon Public Market, you have to go right and the best indicator is when you see the GD gas station. On your way there, you need to see this spot and it’s up to you which road you want to take in. On the right, it is faster but rocky road or on the left it will take a bit far but in a plain road.

Next, you will see these sign boards. Since we are on our way to the Merkado Peak, we need to take right and pass through Osmena Peak. If you reached the end plain road, this is the time you need to go left and experience the adventurous rocky road and it was a bit muddy this time since we were experiencing rain in these past few days. This is going to be a challenging route.
For additional suggestions, it would be better to ask residents there where is that peak because there is still no establishments that is easy for you to know. Since it is still not popular, and they are starting to promote this, so patience and understanding is highly recommended. You do not have to worry because they will welcome you warmly. They are accommodating and approachable.
When I am about to start my journey, I was surprised by its welcome board. Though it’s small but I know the residents there are happy that people now are starting to recognize the place and see the amazing spot they have.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFICULTIES TO ENCOUNTER?
Like what I said before, Life is boring if you will not take the risk. Some of us are setting walls within ourselves and chances are, we remain where we are and not able to step up for a new pathway in life. So, never let this happen to you. You have the power to enjoy, explore and discover. Difficulties scattered everywhere and sometimes we cannot control it but instead, you have to face it and be fearless. This will test how far you can go. It’s time for you to prove to yourself that you are one of a kind.
I am going to state my top 2 difficulties I went through along the way:
- ROADS
Merkado Peak is covered around Barangay Sampig. The roads were not friendly at that time. It was composed of big rocks and mud. Since motorbike is the fastest and easiest way to get there then this will be my first suggestion. Just to make sure your wheels are ready to rock on.
- WAY TO THE PEAK
As of now, this peak is not yet registered to our Municipality tourist spots because it was only discovered and visited starting the lockdown. So they still do not have complete and firm fences to support on your way to the peak. You just have to be extra careful because there was some part it’s slippery due to mosses.
GOOD THINGS AFTER THE TREK
At the end, there will be an emptiness but in a good way. All the heavy thoughts, feelings and worries in yourself should be left from that peak. This will serve as your new day or beginning. It’s good to hear positive outcomes that could possibly change someone’s vision in life and this is when your deep thought will be molded with more possibilities. Releasing is one of the most satisfying process to widen your limits and be capable to welcome new track of challenges.
In addition, with that is to add another achievement on your list by letting yourself to see the hidden nature. This gives a great fulfillment that you were able to do it with your eagerness and interest as well.
Every travel you will meet new people, life stories and culture. By the time I was there, I was welcomed warmly with the locals and this kind of act will be forever marked and lead to keep coming back there and bring new adventurers. Since I experienced a good accommodation, it will add hope to the residents that they will be known , be visited and expand the community by promoting this newly discovered peak.
