"Nobody was born a master; amateurs become experts because they did not give up on learning. You are going as far as you can if you’ll learn and apply!"
Israelmore Ayivor

Being a amateur may be both thrilling and frustrating at the same time, An amateur is regarded as someone who engages in a task or an activity for enjoyment or out of a sense of passion, likely with the intention of becoming a professional at some point.

Have I ever been an amateur at something?

I have, indeed. I think everyone started out as an amateur in their various fields of interest. For me, there was a time when I was an amateur in fashion designing. It was a passion I gradually developed, but at first, it was very confusing to understand the fundamental patterns and how the various cut-out pieces were joined together to make a whole dress, fitted and beautiful. I made several mistakes at first, and if you've ever tried sewing, you know how frustrating it can be, having to rip off all the seams you spent hours sewing, just to get a perfect result.

I eventually began to understand the concept through consistent practice and perseverance, with my passion burning even brighter than before. Little by little, I kept moving forward from the fundamentals to the intermediate stage, and now that I'm a professional at what I do, that doesn't mean the learning stops because learning never really stops in fashion designing.

My intense desire to always see the finished product of my designs and my commitment to learning by constant practicing were the things that got me through. In my line of work, you can't just assume you know something by watching someone else do it; you have to put it into practice for yourself, make mistakes, and improve with each new project. I learned that everyone has a distinct way of producing patterns, so I made sure to learn from a variety of sources, apart from going to a fashion school, I also make use of YouTube, e-books, and traditional books, before choosing the approach that works best for me.

The perks

I now earn from my passion as I advanced from being an amateur and I tell you for a fact that fashion designing is unquestionably a lucrative skill.

Am I still an amateur at something?

Yes I am, there are some things I love doing but haven't really had the time to improve on myself for example

Singing: I enjoy singing, but I don't think of myself as being particularly good or qualified to hold the title of a professional singer. Since singing requires a lot of work, such as working with a vocal coach and receiving voice training, I may add becoming an accomplished singer to my list of future goals though haha🙂

Fashion illustration:Although I'm still a beginner and have only recently begun learning how to draw a croquet, I find this particular aspect of fashion to be fascinating. However, I know that with consistent practice and perseverance, I can improve and draw out all of the incredible ideas I have myself without having to pay a fashion illustrator, and I can then bring my ideas to life by designing them.

Conclusion

Regardless of whether you were born naturally gifted with a skill, every skill still needs to be sharpened through the process of learning in order to become proficient or professional. We are all born amateurs.
