No doubt I was also on that notion that going to school was going to make me wealthy, but seeing graduates around me who were still struggling to make ends meet, some still disturbing their parents for allowance made me realize that life on the other side after school isn't what we think it's going to be.
Every student knows that being a student isn't always rosy especially when you come from a home that isn't financially buoyant enough, I was always short on cash for basic needs, and at a time I resulted to tutoring some fellow students and got paid for my services, to keep up, I had to read more, you don't want a situation when someone walks up to you to solve a question and you can't, I was in school to learn, and I also made money from learning, apart from the monetary aspect, there were lots of favour I received from students I tutored that made my school days less of a stress, the connections I made as well. I got admitted as a very shy girl who could hardly face my peers, but all that got erased in school. I already knew that life was hard enough and you only had yourself to blame for how you turned out, and putting your hope in someone is totally wrong, I learned to survive. Facing real life afterward has not been easy, but learning early on that no one is responsible for you especially as an adult and the only option you've got is to find a means to survive is what has been sustaining, if I fail, I put the blame on myself and find other ways to improve, and if I succeed, I give myself a cheer and still give in my best.
To make it clear, the little knowledge we gain in school, from socialization, learning different topics, and managing our finances are not wasted, rather they shape us into what we are today.
I remember when I decided to go into fashion design even though a lot of people thought it was meant for the uneducated, I laughed so hard when an old schoolmate of mine said that, because it takes to be very smart and be a critical thinker before you can make some certain styles, the more reason why all fashion designers can't be categorized as same, there are levels to fashion designing, also to what you earn. Do you know that what some fashion designers earn in a month triples what some white-collar jobs pay? What has made me successful to some extent within the short duration I've been in the fashion industry is all thanks to the school g process I passed through.
