Hello everyone, my fellow needleworkers, hope you are all doing great today, I made this dress today and here I am sharing the process with you all, because it's a very simple and stylish dress and it took me less than 3 hours to make it, the reason I so much love this dress is that it can be easily worn for most type if event in my country, either you are going on a date, to church, even a mild event like a party, when I don't feel like putting on too much, i just want to appear simple and classy with my heels and clutch bag to go with, this dress will be my choice.

Without further ado, let me take you through the process of how I made this simple/classy dress.

Materials and tools needed

Ankara fabric (any other fabric of your choice can be used too)
Net fabric
Button
Thread
Scissors
Chalk
Taperule
Sewing machine

Starting

  • I drafted an A-line gown pattern for front and back, stopping about 8" above the kneel, the gown is to stop at the kneel length though

  • placing the back pattern aside, now working on the front pattern, I cut out the upper side of the front,

which i would be replacing with the net fabric,

making sure to add the necessary seam allowance before joining it back to the down part of the front pattern

  • I cut out the ankara fabric in form of a bias strip and used it to pipe the neckline of the front
  • next, i cut out a facing for the back, and used it to turn the neckline, making a slit at the middle of the back do it will be easy for the head to pass though the dress neckline easily, since it won't have a zipper, a button will be used instead.
  • I will be using a puff basic sleeve pattern, which i will be playing around the Armhole of the dress, to give it a puffy look.
  • I've joined all pattern above together
  • I measured round the hem which is 34" for me, i tripled this measurements that's 102" , I cut out a lonng 102" by 9.5" strip, thrn gathered it to 34" needed. Remember the measurement left to reach my kneel length which was 8", i added extra one and half inches, one for turning the hem and the half inch for attaching to the dress.
  • lastly, I added rhinestones to the dress to enhance the fabric.

Now the final look.

Hope you find this diy process helpful, please do leave a comment if you found any part confusing, i will be glad to explain further.
