Reviving the enthusiasm for photography by doing simple photo sessions.
Doing casual-themed photo sessions is one of my ways to practice photography. Some time ago, I lost my enthusiasm for photo sessions, whether it's food or beauty portraits. Although I didn't know the reason, I felt lazy to even touch my camera back then. However, recently, the motivation to do photo sessions has resurfaced, thanks to my fellow photographers who invited me to join them in casual-themed sessions.
Casual-themed photography is indeed the most relaxed photo session because I don't have to worry about props, makeup, and other things. I simply go with the flow, following the location and the model's outfit. This time, I was just invited to participate, so I didn't have a significant role in preparing for this photo session. All I did was press the shutter button to capture a few frames and give the results to the model once the session was over.
The photos above are the results of the aforementioned casual-themed photo session. It has been quite a while since I last did a session like this, so I was a bit confused about directing the model's poses. In the end, I took advantage of moments when other photographers were trying to direct poses. Despite that, I still attempted to direct a few poses for the model.
The photo session took place at a coffee shop, which happens to be owned by my friend, so we had plenty of freedom to explore the place. The coffee shop has an outdoor area, allowing a good amount of sunlight to come in. This made it easier for us during the photo session since we relied solely on natural sunlight.
Although the photo session started in the late afternoon, luckily, we still had sufficient natural light, so the session went smoothly without any obstacles. The model's mood was also very comfortable. Even though it was our first time meeting, she didn't show any signs of discomfort and was at ease posing in front of the camera, resulting in great photos, in my opinion. And of course, the model also liked the photos we gave her.
After finishing this photo session, I realized a few things that made me lose my motivation for photography, one of which was overthinking. Whether it's about the location, outfit, concept, props, and other aspects, it made me hesitate to do photo sessions. Since I don't live in the city center, preparing a highly detailed concept requires a considerable amount of money, which eventually made me lazy to do photo sessions.
However, after this photo session, it seems that I should frequently do sessions with simple concepts, adjusting to the location and budget, so that I can continue to create.
Thank you and warm regards from me.
