Small Handprints on the Hope Wall, 2020.png

Hi everyone, my friends!

Here I am back with a new artistic proof of Leonardo, my son who will turn 3 in less than two months.

It was a week that he didn't produce any paintings, in recent days he has dedicated himself to other activities such as building blocks (some of you will already know, having read my last post).

But this morning, he received new tempera as a gift and this was enough to awaken in him the desire to take the brush back in his hand. And not only...

So, we prepared his workbench, as we always do on these occasions, and he got to work.

I'm honest and don't deny that, in this period of quarantine, the artistic moment for me and my wife becomes a little break time, because Leo is immersed in his activity and we have the opportunity to relax for a while.

What I show you today here is just one of the drawings he has made, maybe in the next episodes I will also present another one, which seems to me to be interesting.

The tools he used are the following:

  • one A4 sheet
  • 6 tubes of washable tempera
  • a small brush

The history of this painting is very unusual. As I said, Leonardo was intent on painting on other sheets and on this there were only a few spots of color.

My wife had taken a plate in which he had pressed the various colors so that he could dip the brush in it and then use them on the sheet.

Clearly, the division between the various chromatic shades lasted up to a certain point. After that, all the colors were mixed inside the plate.

This action must have seemed particularly amusing to him, because, after a few minutes, he decided to abandon the brush and continue to mix the paints directly with his hands.

Result: I think you can imagine it. Too bad not being able to take a photo, but the moment was really convulsive. It's true that the colors are washable, but it's better to avoid that he prints those hands somewhere in the house.

So, he has nothing left but that half-drawn sheet, abandoned nearby. He didn't think twice and he printed his hands on it.

When I picked up that sheet after a few hours, it sent me a feeling...a state of mind.

It made me think of closed people who push on a wall or on a glass that separates them from freedom.

And I imagined that perhaps this is how my son should feel, regardless of whether he wanted to express it with this creation or not.

So, I thought that a suitable title for this design could be:

Small Handprints on the Hope Wall

Can you also feel this sort of message or do you think that I have given too deep an interpretation of a simple fun action of my son?

Let go your eyes on the painting, without thinking about anything...

I am curious to read your reactions and to know what you were feeling.

Thanks to all of you for reading my article.

If you liked it, share it on your blog and write me a comment with your impressions.

See you soon!
