Today 15 May, the Italian orchestra conductor Ezio Bosso passed away in his home in Bologna at the age of 48.
Bosso was a brilliant composer and pianist, always in love with music, which he had approached since he was 4 years old.
He has always been indicated as an example of resilience and tenacity, as he has had to live with serious diseases that have strongly influenced him, but have never been able to stop his activity at all.
In 2011, in fact, Ezio Bosso underwent a surgery for the removal of a neoplasm and, on that occasion, he was affected by an autoimmune syndrome. He has lived with this disabling neuro-degenerative pathology for many years, without ever abandoning his activity as a pianist, composer and conductor.
In 2019, his condition worsened and he was forced to cease his pianist activity, as this ailment had compromised the mobility of his hands.
In this regard, Bosso himself said:
芦 If you love me, stop asking me to put myself on the piano and play. You don't know the suffering that causes me, because I can't, I have two fingers that don't respond well anymore and I can't give music enough 禄
And again, he said:
芦 No pietism, the baton is my strong power. The mask that hides the pain. When I put it down, I like everything a little less 禄
At first, it was assumed that the musician was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), but the hypothesis was later denied.
The most probable thesis is that he was suffering from multifocal motor neuropathy, an autoimmune disease that affects the motor nerves, those that transmit signals from the central nervous system to the muscles.
Bosso had become famous not only for his music, but also for his behavior to this impairment, always faced with a smile and with a postive spirit.
Often, people who are forced to live with disabling pathologies, consider themselves unfortunate, are (even with good reason) disappointed by life and tend to complain about their condition, closing in on themselves.
Ezio Bosso, on the other hand, not only managed to find the strength to become an example for others, but with his composure and his natural simplicity, he showed that great goals can be achieved, even in the most difficult conditions.
His passion for music and for life has guided him constantly and it's enough to watch an interview or a concert to understand it.
In this regard, I leave you here the link of a beautiful reportage edited by Saverio Tommasi of Fanpage.it, in which we can follow the artist behind the scenes before a concert and then the next day at his home.
The video is in Italian language, but activating the subtitles should be quite understandable.
In any case, just look at his smile and his gestures to capture the essence.
Many famous artists wanted to demonstrate their sadness for this disappearance and also the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella has expressed his condolences by remembering the inspiration, the intense passion and his indomitable human charge.
To conclude, I leave you with another of his beautiful thoughts:
芦 The dream is that an orchestra tells me: let's do everything Beethoven. So I finally manage my musical dad. If you ask me what I would like to direct, I return to childhood: Beethoven, M谩 vlast by Smetana and Les pr茅ludes by Liszt. At 5 years old, listening to them secretly, I dreamed of directing 禄
Goodbye Ezio!
