Hello! Hivians, welcome to my blog. Happy Sunday to everyone. This is another episode of the weekend-engagement topic by galenkp.
There was never a time I intentionally went in search of friends. I can only hope to make friends at an event or wherever I find myself. Although I feel friendship naturally builds up, you can stretch a hand of friendship mostly when something attracts you to someone. Friendship can also exist when you do someone a favour or when someone does you a favour, there are always atoms of positive friendship in that scenario. If I was in search of new friends then wherever I go I should be able to dispense good attitude towards the people I meet. I can start by addressing how beautiful or handsome their outfits look and go further to ask if it was handmade or designer, just like that a conversation has started. In order not to let the conversation die off, I could continue with another question, probably what he/she came for at that place.
Now becoming friends doesn't mean our friendship would last long before I proceed to making it a lasting one, I should be able to tell if this friendship is worth keeping. I wouldn't want to be in a toxic friendship that would harm me or my mental health. So if this friendship is worth keeping then I should be able to give back the same energy I get from the other person or group of persons, be it constant communication, gifts or information that was shared with me I should be able to give it back.
I made a new friend early this year, her name is Rejoice. She is a corps member. She came from Kaduna in Nigeria to serve her one year mandatory post graduate program here in Plateau, Nigeria. So we met at my shop when she came to buy a particular brand of bottled water but unfortunately I didn't have any. She complained about going further, in search of her preferred brand and she didn't really know where to get it. So I directed her where to find it. When she came back, I asked her if she was new in town and she replied yes and I welcomed her. She became comfortable with me and started telling me how it has been difficult to get water to bath and some other crucial stuff, so I showed her where she could get bathing water and also advised her on those other stuff and she was happy. Later that day, she came to my shop and sat with me. We engaged in a chat and laughed until it was my closing hour, that's how we became friends. Rejoice never passes by without coming to say hello! She would sometimes call me and I do well to return the same. Rejoice is a fun person, a comedian at some point with a lot of life experiences, she has a very pure heart and she is a giver just like me. She doesn't hesitate to buy things for kids in that area no matter how much it will cost her. She is very reasonable. If I need help with something I don't need to say much she would gladly help me out even in her very busy schedule. She is a friend worth keeping. I am so aware that keeping friends could be difficult especially when you are engaged with too many responsibilities, it cost you a little bit of your time in your very schedule but if I find a good friend I would stay connected and secure it. It won't be easy but if our goals are on the same route I think we would achieve a lasting friendship. Leaving it for one person could crash the friendship, so reciprocating is very important to achieve a long lasting friendship.
