A New Chapter
Hello, my dear friends—readers and fellow entrepreneurs alike. I hope you are doing well and having a wonderful week. Today, I want to share a new journey I’ve embarked on. I got braces two days ago, officially starting this process after a long time of thinking about it. My smile has always been a source of insecurity for me—which is why I rarely smile in photos—though I know we shouldn't let ourselves be swayed by the standards of perfection or stereotypes sold to us on social media.
My smile is relatively "healthy"—I have good hygiene and don't suffer from cavities or other dental issues—but I feel it is important to mention the other side of the story: because my mother couldn't breastfeed me when I was an infant, I have dental fluorosis and an atypical swallowing pattern. This means my tongue doesn't rest naturally against the roof of my mouth; instead, it pushes against my lower teeth, exerting enough force to shift them.
Discussing this makes me realize the seriousness of the risks involved when babies aren't breastfed. As for adjusting to the process, the last two days have been a bit difficult; the pain is somewhat unbearable—though mostly fleeting—and while I’ll feel pressure most of the time, the worst part so far has been the inability to eat properly, as my teeth are still very sensitive.
On one hand, I’m happy because I can finally address the dissatisfaction with my smile that I’ve felt for years. But at the same time, I’m a little scared—worried about the pain, the process, and how my appearance might change, whether slightly or drastically. I feel like it’s all about trusting the process and letting things take their course.
To be honest, it’s still very early days, and I don’t really like how I look with them yet, but I think that as time goes on, I’ll get used to it and come to love this new phase a bit more. Today, I’m grateful to my dad and my aunt for making this possible and helping me through the process.
On another note, these past few days have brought me wonderful experiences and valuable lessons; I am assisting an excellent dentist—and a great person—who is teaching me and guiding me through the long journey that is dentistry. Today, I was able to take an active part—handing over instruments and observing procedures up close, among other things—bringing me a little closer to this amazing world; actually beginning to understand it is even more exciting. I still remember when all of this was nothing more than dreams or thoughts I had during the day or at night, and seeing them become reality now fills me with satisfaction. I hope—and am certain—that this new chapter will be full of joy and blessings.
