Things we don't learn in school- Why is emotional intelligence important for problem solving?
Emotional intelligence is the capacity to be aware of, control, and express one's emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.
Humans have a natural instinct to want to be the best. Everyone wants to be a winner. When negative issues arise between any two individuals it could cause a few problems. In such a situation, especially in the work place, it is quite important to make use of your emotional intelligence skills.
Relationships in the workplace can be handled effectively when the other person has more empathy and they are more aware of their emotions. Negative experiences, can be turned into positive ones if they are handled professionally and have a good end result.
Nobody likes an emotional person in the workplace. Your emotions affect your work performance and if you are an emotional person, it is important for you to learn how to handle your emotions effectively. Be aware of your emotions and keep your emotions in place.
How to handle your emotions at work
We often have bad days, and there are exceptions in certain circumstances, where our emotions take over at work, but overall we need to be able to identify our emotions at all times. If you are jealous of someone at work because they get more attention from the boss, you have to figure out if you are really jealous of that person, or if you are just upset that you were not chosen to do the specific task.
If you feel emotional about something that happened at work it is important to handle yourself professionally and not show multiple emotions that could embarrass you in front of others. Rather remove yourself from the situation, and if you need to let off some steam, do it where others cannot see or hear you.
Take a deep breath before you go back to resolve the issue. Don’t just leave it, because that would not resolve anything and you will not feel better. Make sure to resolve this as professionally as possible and keep your emotions at bay. Control your emotions in such a way that others can look up to you.
Use your emotions in such a way that it has a positive impact instead of making you look like a fool. You need to look and feel in control.
Once you understand and feel more in control you should be able to identify solutions more easily and you would know how to handle certain situations more effectively.
It isn't stress that makes us fall--it's how we respond to stressful events.
