Often in my life, I feel like the odd one out. I never really know where to fit in. I am somewhat of a loner and do things the way I want to. One of my biggest fears in life is to be ridiculed in front of others, therefore I am usually the little wallflower between new people because I don't have much to say.
"I fear I will be ripped open and found unsightly." Anne Sexton
When we go to a new place I will not go out of my way to talk to anyone. My husband, on the other hand, makes friends as far as he goes. Opposites attract right?
I am not shy but I just don't like to meet new people and I am quite happy to be on my own. There is however a very small part of me that just wants to fit in with the rest of the world and be like everyone else, but where's the fun in that?
It is a fact that we cannot all be the same. Can you even imagine how boring it would actually be if we all had the same personalities, we all looked the same and we all dressed the same?
When we are born, we are all perfect little humans without any sin. Unfortunately, this changes when we grow and learn. At first, our parents teach us then later on we are influenced by friends and peers until we finally leave the nest to fly.
When we start living on our own, life becomes more difficult because we don't have that safety net anymore and we start to live on a more emotional level. Now our safety net is gone and we are left to do things the way that we were taught, or the way we want to.
We are exposed to so many factors on the outside, that we develop our own reality of what seems right. There is no rulebook so we just have to take it as it comes. We make mistakes, get over it, and then just live on.
Life can only be lived by trial and error. Life is not always moonshine and roses, and we don't know where we are going to end up. All that I know is that we all have an end goal and we have to live our lives in such a way that we can reach our ultimate goal.
We have to make the right choices, and if you read Harry Potter you might have heard this quote:
"It is truly our choices that show what we are, far more than our abilities."
Even though we will make the wrong choices at times, we sometimes get an opportunity to rectify our mistakes. With God, we have a clean slate every day. If we do make a mistake, we can ask Him for forgiveness, and then it is as if it never happened.
Life is a wonderful journey full of lessons, and it doesn't matter what happens, we all strive to be happy. Remember to be yourself, you do not have to fit in anywhere. You can be the odd one out!
