Good morning everyone, today I would like to share with you my personal experience in using bitter orange as a phytotherapeutic remedy.
Bitter orange is an evergreen tree that can withstand temperatures down to -5 °C, the balsamic period is May for the flowers and December for the fruits.
Toxicity is low but can cause gastrointestinal disorders.
Do not take Citrus aurantium supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding, always consult a doctor before taking phytotherapeutic preparations based on this plant.
Thanks to its active ingredients, in particular synephrine, camphene, limonene, citric acid and hesperidin, the plant extract has a carminative, digestive, sedative and vasoprotective action.
The essential oil is used in industry as a flavouring, it is also a plant particularly appreciated by bees and its fruits are edible.
PREPARATIONS
Infusion: prepared with 15 g of fresh leaves per 100 ml of water for carminative and digestive functions.
Infusion: prepared with 15 g of fresh flowers per 100 ml of water for the sedative function.
Wine: prepared with 30 g of dried peels, macerated for 15 days in 1 liter of red wine, the filtrate can be preserved for 6 months, 100 ml per day for digestive and vasoprotective functions.
NOTES
From the steam distillation of orange flowers, a particular essential oil is obtained, called "neroli" to distinguish it from the essential oil obtained by pressing the peels.
Recent research seems that some trace elements present in oranges are able to lower uricemia without altering diuresis.
