Entry for the Shadow Contest/SMASh 288 - She, Immersed in the Shadows

The move had been exhausting. She had left behind her old home, her friends, her job, her life. All to follow her husband, who had landed a unique opportunity in another city.

Now she found herself in an empty apartment, full of unopened boxes, with no trace of warmth or personality. She felt like a stranger, as if she had invaded someone else's space. Her husband was in the office, excited about his new project. She had nothing to do but unpack and tidy up.

He sat on the couch, the only piece of furniture they had brought with them and looked out the window. The night was dark. No light was visible, and no sound could be heard. She felt lonely and sad, as if she had lost something irretrievable.

Then, he heard a knock at the door. She got up curiously and opened it. In front of her stood a smiling woman, a tray of cookies in her hands.

He told her that she was his neighbor from across the street, that her name was Sofia. That he had seen her arrive and thought to welcome her. Hence the tray of cookies.

Laura thanked him and pointed out that she had just moved in with her husband.

After a long conversation, the two women said goodbye cordially and Laura closed the door.

It had been a nice moment, which gave him hope that he would get reasons to be happy in that new home.

Laura felt a warmth in her chest, a sensation she hadn't experienced in a long time. It was the feeling of having a friend. The strange thing was that she had just met her.

That encounter had left a rich taste of happiness, joy.

It seemed that being immersed in the shadows she had found a new and warm home. Because the shadows are nothing without the light and the light has no reason to exist without the shadows.
