We are all a work in progress, and I believe it's natural for every human to have one or more weaknesses. I have seen people who boast to be perfect, and it makes me laugh because they know the truth about themselves but do not want their weaknesses to be used against them, so they hide whatever they are struggling with away from the world. It's fine and very understandable because we live in a world where people take advantage of others weaknesses.
Our weaknesses can vary from little things to really big issues, yet it's not a thing to shy about, and like I have always said, we are all far away from perfection even when we think we are close.
From my little experience in life, I have realized that admitting there is a problem is the first step to finding a solution, so admitting we have a weakness doesn't make us a weakling or anything less; it means we know what our struggles are and we are working tirelessly to keep things in check.
Somehow my weaknesses, because it's more than one have a lot of connection with my upbringing, and it's not completely a bad one, but sometimes it triggers me to make decisions even without thinking, and I don't realize it until it backfires.
The biggest on my list is putting people's needs ahead of mine, especially when it has to do with their well-being. I was so obsessed with this habit but didn't realize it because it never backfired, and when it first did, I still thought it was a mistake until people's actions made me discover that it was a weakness. The moment I realized it was my weakness, I started learning to say no, but that only happens when the person didn't cook up a good story to back up his or her problem. With just a little emotion in the story, I wouldn't hesitate to put the person's needs ahead of mine.
When I was still dating the woman who is now my wife, she complained a lot about the habit, but I always thought she was just overreacting. I didn't care what she thought until my weakness pushed me to do a favor that landed me in trouble. I couldn't wrap my head around the situation and just kept regretting that I didn't consider myself first before making the decision.
To be honest, I didn't just develop this weakness as an adult. It's been something registered on my mind since childhood because those days were really tough and I knew what it means to be in need, so it's hard to look away, especially when I have what it takes to help.
As a kid, I made a decision to always come through for people whenever I could, but it ended up being my weakness. Despite regarding this as my weakness, I really do not want to stop being helpful to people who are in need, but putting others needs over myself is something I am trying to put in check.
I always thought I had gotten over it after the incident that happened some years ago, but it's a lie. I still do it, but not often, which means I have made a lot of progress between them and now. Like I mentioned earlier, every human has one weakness or more, and what matters more is putting ourselves in check before our weakness becomes a huge problem in our lives.
One thing I am certain about is that we have control over weaknesses and we just need to be more intentional about putting things in check.
