I am not surprised to see that a lot of things have not been decided yet in the English Premier League with four matches to go, that's one of the reasons why I choose it to be my number among other European leagues.
This minute, you think a particular team has secured a spot, and the next minute another team will occupy the spot.
The league is full of surprises and among the big surprises that happened over the weekend was Chelsea losing to Everton, who would have predicted that a side led by Frank Lampard will get all three points against Chelsea. Everton's situation at the moment required that they must secure all three points but not against a side that got all attention at the Santiago Bernabeu a few weeks ago.
No one would have believed that the blues wouldn't get anything out of the match and that doesn't make Everton a better team than Chelsea, the team isn't just in the right state at the moment.
They have been struggling since their trip to Spain, being knocked out of the UCL must have hit the team hard. They have only been able to pick just four points from their last four Premier League matches, a narrow win against Westham United, a loss to Arsenal and Everton, played a draw against Manchester United. As it stands, the loss to Everton has opened the third position for Arsenal or Tottenham to hijack the third position with 4 matches left to end the season.
With three points between Chelsea and Arsenal and five between Tottenham, we could be seeing more surprises if Thomas Tuchel doesn't bring life back into the team.
Arsenal reclaimed the fourth spot, they reduced the point difference between them and Chelsea to three which keeps the team's hope alive of even ending in the third position which would be difficult for them judging by the matches they left for the season, Mikel Arteta's boys were able to grind out the needed results against Westham United.
Holding and Gabriel scored a goal each to give their side all three points, Bowen's equalizer wasn't enough to help his side grab at least a point from the encounter. With the matches ahead, it would be difficult to predict Arsenal's future at the end of the season. The Gunners will still need to grind out results against Spurs, another side competing for next season's UCL ticket. Newcastle is another tough task, Leeds United and then Everton, a side doing everything to get out of the relegation zone could become a nightmare for Arsenal.
The team hasn't been hundred percent consistent but winning their last three matches against Manchester United, Chelsea, and Westham shows how much the team understands what winning every game means at the moment. There are still four matches to go and a lot can still happen, I am certain football fans are open to surprises.
Tottenham Hotspur returned to winning ways after the disappointment they encounter against Brighton and Brentford, it was a great struggle and the team lost valuable points that could have strengthened their spot in the race for next season's UCL ticket.
The London side didn't hesitate to grab their chances against Leicester City, it was much needed win for the club to boost their hopes of the top four. Son keeps lifting the team from time to time and I was wowed by his second goal against Leicester, he keeps improving from time to time. He now has 19 league goals this season and might dethrone Mohammed Salah who hasn't been finding the net lately.
Despite Tottenham restoring their top four hopes with the win against Leicester City, the journey ahead isn't an easy one and I think their future would be decided by their next two matches which would be against Liverpool and Arsenal. Those two encounters aren't going to be easy and I am certain neither of the two opponents will go easy on them since Liverpool wouldn't want to take an eye off the title and Arsenal also wants that UCL ticket.
Westham United and Leicester City would have made the competition more suspenseful if they weren't playing in the Uefa Competitions, they have proven to be teams with a bright future for reaching the semifinal stages in their respective competition. Chelsea stands a higher chance of finishing third judging by their remaining fixtures as well but with the team's current form, not is guaranteed.
With four matches left, I am expecting dramas as usual and I hope the best legs make the spots for representing the English teams in all Uefa Competitions.
