Our addiction to smart phones and computers is something else, we sometimes believe that our life depends on them which is true to an extent because a lot of people across the globe use them to get money for their daily survival.
Blogging, crypto, graphic designing, gaming, chatting, and vlogging are things we do daily with these gadgets and we repeat these processes every day.
Many of us find so much comfort in those devices, it is now a world where many choose to bury themselves. People's reaction, when asked if they can do without their phone or computer for a certain period, makes me laugh a lot.
"It is impossible",
"What will I be doing for those days?",
"Who did I offend?",
and many other funny reactions are what you will get from people.
I am not exempted but in a situation where I don't have access to these gadgets, it won't definitely be the end of the world.
I remembered when my Nokia C2 was seized by my lecturer, I had this funny ringtone then and it rang while the lecture was on. The whole class burst into laughter which made the lecturer pissed off, she turned down my plea and told me to come for it at the end of the semester.
Life was boring, I was too broke to get another one. I would have used the money for my studies if someone gave me money for another one and I was without a phone for a month.
During that period, I spend longer time in school just to keep myself busy. If was difficult then and it would be more difficult now, it was all about chatting, music and games then, but are very much improved now which makes doing away with your phones and computers more difficult to do away with.
A week without any of these gadgets would be awesome even though many wouldn't admit it because we are so attached to our gadgets. Everything about the world has gone digital, money, entertainment, transportation, and many other things but there are other ways to do these same things, we are just very comfortable with the comfort the digital world gives us.
Life was beautiful before these devices came into the picture, we played physical games, watch movies, hang out with friends, we raced, read books, swim in rivers, and do many other things but all these things have been replaced with a series of invention.
As difficult as that one week might look, I have things that would keep me alive without these gadgets.
Cooking
I love doing this a lot because it's one thing that I enjoy doing and don't get tired of. Within that week, I will try lots of recipes especially now that I developing lots of interest for pastries and that one week could just be the perfect time to learn more about it.
I will spend a lot of time in the kitchen as long as I have enough resources to keep myself busy there and I wouldn't have to worry about my devices. Whenever I am not inspired to do any, you will always find me doing one or two things in the kitchen because I sometimes draw inspiration from there.
Spending time trying something new in the kitchen can keep me alive without using either a computer or phone.
Movies
I don't do movies lately and I have a long list of movies I need to see, that one week will definitely allow watching lots of movies because my engagement online is what prevents me from watching movies lately. I get to stop several times while watching and it eventually makes me tired at the end.
Over the weekend, I wasn't too online so I saw some movies and I wished my life doesn't get too busy like it use to be. You can check the movies out as well, they are action-packed.
Prey and Day Shift are all interesting movies you can see as well.
Spending more time with my family.
Smart phones have created lots of gaps in many families, I respect family time a lot and I try to put my phone away during that.
Not having my phone or computer for a week will leave me no choice but to spend more time together with them. We pray, sing, talk about issues, and play games, it is always fun doing these things together as a family.
One week is not a long time and these things can definitely help through those times.
One thing I am certain humans are capable of doing is adapting to change, if the world lost its grip on technology, you will be amazed at how quickly we will switch to the new world. Not everyone will find it easy though but it won't be the end of the world.
