"Today's outing was the best with you babe, I had so much fun", Vivian kissed me as we stepped out of the Fun Park.

"I still have 100 years to spend with you so you shouldn't call this the best", I replied as we walked out of the park holding hands.

It was evening already and the sunset was beautiful.

We were patiently waiting for a bus when the sky began to turn dark suddenly, it happened fast and people had to run back to the park for shelter.

"Let's just wait, I hope a bus arrives before the rain pours", I convinced Vivian after she suggested we returned to the park.

"We should have just returned in there", she grumbled immediately after it started pouring.

"I am sorry, we can still make it back there before we get completely soaked", I apologized.

We have taken a few steps heading back to the Park when we heard a vehicle honking.

We turned around and raced to the bus.

"I got to the bus before you", Vivian whispered as we sank into an empty seat.

"That's not true, I let you win", I replied.

We kissed a few times while gisting in the bus and I could tell the fun wasn't over.

The bus drove past my favorite coffee shop and I was distracted for a few seconds, the coffee in the air seized my mind.

"Coffee, right?", Vivian called my attention back to her and I smiled.

"So you got carried away just now because of that coffee shop?", She asked.

"No, I didn't even see the shop", I replied.

She didn't talk to me after and I was still apologizing when we arrived at our bus-stop.

We walked in the rain and Vivian still wouldn't say a word to me.

"I am sorry, it won't happen again", I put up a broad smile, she finds it irresistible.

"Don't make a promise you won't fulfill and you haven't replied me about what we said concerning your morning coffee ritual", she finally responded as we climbed the stairs to my flat and I didn't respond.

We had a hot bath first and while she went to prepare dinner after, I went to make coffee.

I opened my coffee container and it was empty. I rushed to check my reserved container but it was empty as well

"You look disturbed, is anything wrong?", Vivian asked.

"Nothing, I am good", I didn't want to bring up a coffee at that time.

"Sweetheart, I have to go somewhere right now", I said to Vivian.

"Are you kidding? It is late, the rain is pouring heavily and you can't even get a cab by this time", she replied.

"Yeah, I know. I will just trek and use the umbrella".

"Okay, tell me about it before you leave", she insisted.

"Fine, I ran out of coffee", I replied.

"I thought as much, you didn't run out of coffee. I disposed everything and you are not going anywhere".

She went to the kitchen angrily and I left the house immediately.

"Why will she do that?", I asked myself on my way out.

I arrived home with a bag of coffee and was surprised to see the door unlocked.

"Honey! Vivian", I called several times but it seems the house was empty.

I tried calling her lines but she didn't pick up.

I was worried and couldn't concentrate so I made a cup of coffee while trying her number.

"Stop disturbing me with calls", she finally picked up.

"Where are you dear?", I asked.

"You don't need me. Afterall, coffee can fill my place", she replied.

"Don't tell me you left the house for that reason".

"Yes, I did. I am sick of how you choose coffee over me", she replied.

I felt terrible and wished Vivian understood me. It's our third week of courtship and things have gone sideways.

"Please return home", I pleaded.

"I will do that just to take my things tomorrow, I don't intend to spend the rest of my life with a man who idolizes a common drink", she replied and ended the call.

I was up all night drinking coffee and thinking about what was next.

Someone was knocking early the next day and I went to get the door.

"Oh, Vivian. Where have you been all night?".

"Why do act like you care? I only came here to pick up my things", she replied and hissed.

"Don't you want this resolved", I asked as I walked behind her.

"Resolved? If anything will be resolved, we must play by my rules", she replied.

"It's okay, what do you want?",

"Nothing, just stop idolizing coffee. No more distractions at the sight of coffee and morning coffee ritual. I love to place my head on your chest when I sleep but when it's 5 am, you just shove me off because of a cup of coffee", she broke into tears.

"I thought love was about sacrifice and acceptance, you sound like I am being inhuman toward you", I replied as I moved closer to her.

I continued,"Taking coffee away from me means removing my sanity, it is the one thing that helps me to function properly. I have let go of a lot of things for us, you should embrace just one thing about me".

I saw tears drop from her eyes and it made me feel bad.

I wiped her tears with my palm before I continued,"Coffee is not your rival, it is part of this relationship. I love you and my coffee dearly, don't let this tear us apart".

I hugged her and she wrapped her hands around me tightly as she apologized for being selfish.

It was easier than I thought, having Vivian and coffee in life makes everything perfect for me. The next morning, she made my 5 am coffee.
