Hi Guys! In this post we are exploring on another Splinterlands ruleset. The ruleset we are focusing on is Wands Out.
In an Wands Out ruleset, only units with magic attack can be used in battle.
Lets take a look at a Wild Silver ranked match with Wands as one of the ruleset. The battle restrictions are:
Wands Out and Healed Out with a max mana of 45. All splinters, except for Life, are allowed in this battle. The Video for the Full Battle can be seen here:

| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bortus | 3 | Summoner | If I have Immortalis, it would be the summoner I would use in this match. Immortalis would give all my units Void. Since I don't have Immortalis, I have to make do with what I have. One option would be to use my level 4 Obsidian which would gives all my unit +1 magic attack. The other option I have is to use my level 3 Bortus which would reduce enemy magic units' attack by 1. I went with Bortus. |
| Djinn Oshannus | 8 | 1st | Reason I went with Bortus was because Water sprinter has Djinn Oshannus. Djinn Oshannus is fast and has Phase which would enable it to dodge magic attack. However the most important reason for using Djinn Oshannus as the tank was because of it has Void. Void would reduce magic attack and if the enemy magic attack is only 1, it wouldn't even hurt Djinn Oshannus. This is why I use Bortus with Djinn Oshannus. |
| Runemancer Kye | 11 | 2nd | Runemancer Kye's Life Leech ability could make it a big health monster so I used it as my secondary tank. |
| Medusa | 4 | 3rd | I put in Medusa for its Stun ability. Stun would caused the opposing unit to miss a turn but Stun probability chance is only 50%. |
| River Nymph | 4 | 4th | River Nymph is to cleanse my tank in case I faced something that can caused poison to my tanking unit. |
| Spirit Miner | 6 | 5th | Spirit Miner would add additional speed to my lineup as well as provide some additional damage dealing from the back |
| Nerissa Tridawn | 9 | 6th | My main DPS. Nerissa Tridawn can hit for 3 magic damage and would cause some serious damage to enemy without Void. |
| Total Mana: | 45 |
Opponent Lineup:
My opponent went with a Dragon splinter lineup with a level 2 Quix the Devious as the summoner. Quix the Devious wasn't something I was expecting as the -1 Ranged attack ability doesn't come into play in this match. Its +1 speed is helpful though. But what was a big headache to me is in the opponent lineup itself as it was a fully maxed out team with Agor Longtail as the tank. Agor Longtail is super big tank with Taunt. It has huge armor and health with Void armor. The scary part though is it can deal both magic and melee attack in the same round. This means my -1 magic attack wouldn't be effective at least against Agor Longtail which has a big melee attack.
End of Round 1:
As you can see in the first round, my Djinn Oshannus was heavily hurt by my opponent Agor Longtail. Thankfully the rest of my opponent lineup couldn't hurt my Oshannus due to the fact their magic attacks were reduced to 1 because of my Bortus' -1 magic ability. But what was more important in this round was that the opponent Agor Longtail was successfully stunned by my Medusa. Without Agor Longtail attacking, my tank is invulnerable to the rest of my opponent team.
End of Round 2:
Round 2 saw the opponent's Agor Longtail reduced to just 1 health left. My Medusa did fail to stun it though but the opposing tank would be dead in the next round.
End of Round 3:
The opponent's Agor Longtail did get kill but was immediately revived by my opponent's River Hellondale. It gained back its full armor with 1 health point. I have to go through destroying the revived Agor Longtail's armor again and then killing it one more time. With Agor Longtail gone, my opponent had no way of going through my Djinn Oshannus.
End of Round 4:
I spent the entire round 4 grinding down the opponent secondary tank, Void Dragon. Void Dragon has Void which thus made it harder to take down with magic attack. Meanwhile my opponent couldn't make a dent to my Djinn Oshannus.
End of Round 6:
The battle was finally over in round 6 when I eliminated the last of the opponent units while not losing a single unit.
KEY STRATEGY
My strategy was to use Djinn Oshannus holding the front line with its Void ability and Bortus further reducing enemy magic attacks. It almost didn't work when the opponent put out a unit that has both magic and melee attack. Thankfully I was able to kill off the enemy unit before losing my Djinn Oshannus.
TIPS ON WHICH ABILITIES TO USE
There are certain abilities that are very important in a Wands Out ruleset. As you know in Wands Out ruleset, only magic attacking units can be deploy. This means abilities that affect magic would be very important. These include:
- Amplify + Magic Reflect - Magic Reflect will reflect magic damage back to the attacker and Amplify will increase that magic reflect damage.
- Phase - Phase allow fast units to dodge incoming magic attacks. Without Phase, magic attack will always hit its target no matter how fast that target is.
- Void - Magic attack damage get halved. Magic attack of 1 will deal 0 damage.
- Void Armor - Magic attack will need to destroy the unit's armor before it can deal damage to the health.

My guild, The Guild of Kingshaven, is also looking for new members. For added incentive to joining us, our guild leader will also be assigning Runi to any new member that can actively participate in brawl battles and give donation to our guild buildings. Runi is extremely powerful and is the only unit that has the Rebirth ability.
